Summer Naturally Curly Hair Tips

Chlorine and salt water both dry, discolor, and damage hair. Chlorine binds to the hair, filling in gaps in the hair shaft. Mineral deposits in salt water make hair brassy and brittle. Both severely dehydrate hair. Imagine how these elements affect delicate, kinky/curly hair which tends to be much drier than straight hair. It is imperative that you (1) take preventative steps to avoid damaged, lifeless hair, (2) moisturize your hair on a daily basis to restore moisture balance, and (3) take the time to incorporate a quality summer hair care regime.

Here are a few summertime tips that will keep damaged, split, brittle, frizzy hair away, so you and your angel can enjoy the summer without worry.

1. Before you enter a pool, lake, ocean, or any body of water, drench your hair with water and apply a coat of conditioner to the hair. This water/conditioner mixture will fill up the gaps in your hair shaft and act as a barrier from the chlorinated water. Follow up with a little club soda; it makes for a good post-pool rinse. I recommend wearing a swim cap as often as possible. Although most hate wearing them for many reasons - it’s comfortable, unattractive, or it never stays on, etc. - using a cap, that securely protects the hair, is always the best option.

2. If there is a time to be extra gentle with your hair, it is now. Treat your hair like a fine silk blouse. Purchase a gentle hydrating shampoo. ALWAYS follow up with a rich conditioner. Shampoo gently – massage a small amount of shampoo into scalp, rinse well.
Use a quality conditioner with moisturizing ingredients to deep condition her hair on a weekly basis during the summer. Look for quality ingredients and natural oils.

3. Over-shampooing and under-conditioning is a common culprit to dry and frizzy hair…especially in the summer months. Shampooing more than 1x a week is not recommended. On "shampoo-less" days, simply do a conditioning rinse - rinse hair to remove styling products (this is when using the right products that are water soluble come in). Apply an ample amount of CURLS Conditioner, comb through, rinse, and proceed with styling. Doing so will pump much needed moisture back into your hair without stripping away essential nutrients, rinse away unnecessary dirt and oil, and give you a fresh, clean start.

4. Avoid products that contain synthetic oils such as mineral and/or petrolatum oil, as they further dehydrate your hair. Also avoid products that contain drying alcohol, such as hair spray, mousse and some gels. Instead, opt for a curl lotion.

5. Pay special attention to the ends of your hair; after all, they are the oldest part of the hair. Mix a bit of a conditioner with a natural oil, apply, and comb through ends; leave in for extra protection.

6. Hydrate your curls DAILY...this is very important! Moisturizer should soften the hair, ease comb ability, moisturize and condition, prep your naturally curly hair for the next step, and leave a little goodness behind. Consider moisturizer as your "underwear for your hair.

Detoxification Diet: Detox Natural Diet

Detox Your Colon Knoxville Tn
A regular detox diet plan can rid the body of the accumulated toxins and lead to an active disease-free life. All cures come from within the central core of your body first then it progresses outward and from the top of your body down to your feet and in reverse order in which the symptoms first occurred. Ways to work through a healing crisis: Drink lots of water treat yourself to a massage or hot bath do daily caster oil packs over your liver for 3-5 days and fast. A detox diet contains approximately 600-750 Kcals per day. It strictly forbids meat, fish, alcohol, and stimulants like coffee. Detox diets are known to make a person feel better, even lighter, but there is little scientific evidence of any good coming out of it. Detoxification is unarguably very important for a long lasting health. There are several ways to achieve detoxification of the system some depend on the type of chemicals we are attempting to rid the body of while others have a general effect. This method involves the use of radiant energy at a lower temperature to generate heat within the body. The radiant energy has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin and the underlying subcutaneous layers. Almost every technological innovation has come with its own problems. Come to think of it statistics have it that more than twenty billion pounds of toxic substances are released into the environment annually. Since the presence of these toxic substances are known to cause the deficiency of several important vitamins and minerals in the body the third step involves restoring these deficient vitamins and minerals; essentially through nutritional supplements.

How Can I Cleanse My Colon
The bloodstream is probably the most heavily-laden system in the body when it comes to toxins. Once the liver detoxification has been accomplished it is time to start removing the toxins from the blood and the body. We use another tea formulated for just that purpose. This ancient formula comes from an Indian tribe in Canada. Plant fats would include nuts avocados and olives. Oils such as olive oil canola oil and peanut oil are better choices than fats that come from animal sources such as butter lard or bacon grease. Foods that should be included are whole grains fresh fruits and vegetables and hormone and antibiotic free animal products as these go a long way to helping to keep the liver healthy. With less lean muscle tissue the body's metabolic needs decrease which hampers weight loss efforts unless calories are lessened further in the diet.

Detoxification
So what foods need to be removed? Here is a list of essentials: Red meat Alcohol Tea coffee and anything with caffeine in it Sugar Dairy products cheese eggs and full fat milk All processed and junk foods All processed carbohydrates such as white bread and pasta. These include blood pressure abnormalities mood disorders headaches and fatigue. You may already know of the lemon detox which is a detox diet plan aimed to cleanse your liver in order to make you feel fresh replenished and energetic for the day. Toxins and bad bacteria are cleansed while detoxifying the colon. A clean colon is instrumental in helping the body absorb the nutrients and enzymes from the food intake, which is very helpful for the digestive system. We hear a lot about pollution and the diseases that are caused by toxic chemicals and metals. People often say that it is not natural. The solution to the kind of exhaustion you experience when you're on a starvation diet combined with a strict exercise regime is to change over to the following type of diet: Moderate energy reduction (to promote weight loss); Lots of complex carbohydrates (these carbohydrates contain very little fat but will provide your body with the fuel it needs for exercise); Only small amounts of fat; A moderate amount of protein.

Detox Liver Kit
But these days you're just as likely to find people using the word to describe the process of improving their health by ridding their bodies of caffeine tobacco junk food and environmental pollutants. The diet usually lasts for two weeks and should not be done more than two or three times every year. Oxidation occurs at the cellular level so detox must occur there as well. Oxidation causes all kinds of problems such as allergies and certain types of sickness. However it is an establish fact that under the detox diet program a person will definitely shed a few pounds.

Master Cleanse Diary:
Our livers rarely complain when we abuse our bodies but it is actually the most hardworking of all our internal cleansing organs. If you combine these detox plans you will be able to jumpstart your bodily functions and restore your health to its maximum level. Why detox? The primary cause of disease is the accumulation of waste and toxins which are not eliminated from our body. The skin accumulates toxins from inside and outside the body. The environmental pollutants, UV rays and chemicals from your personal care are as dangerous as the toxins generated from inside. For example, UV rays can generate an increase level of reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen species in cells which will result in oxidative damage to lipids, proteins and DNA. This is one of the reasons why UV rays can induced skin cancer. Chemicals can induce oxidation of lipids and other cell compounds which ultimately generate free radicals. In addition, petrochemical derivatives from your regular skin care products, suffocate the skin and it cannot breath properly. These derivatives are foreign for the body and are very difficult to eliminate. They accumulate in the body and can trigger poorly maintain cell equilibrium that can lead to degenerative processes associated with premature aging, inflammation, different skin ailments including cancer. Think of it detox as a spring clean for the body. Often people end up with side-effects from a detox program thus highlighting the importance of medical consultation an supervision when undergoing a diet change. Some supplements will help the mobilization of toxin's in our fat and other toxin deposit's located throughout the body. Because our bodies today are the same as in the past it is critical to eat/ drink and live the same as in years past - centuries past.

Body and Mind Detox - 5 Ways to Better Health

When most of us think of a body detox, we imagine going on a special diet for a few days. It's not hard to see how this can benefit the body. But there has been a lot of interest recently in the relationship between the mind and body. By changing our thoughts and emotions we can have a direct effect on our bodies. Here are 5 ways that you can detox the mind.

1) Creative Visualization - Lie down in a quiet room and mentally picture a positive scene. You could imagine lying on a tropical beach with the waves lapping up the shore. Try to involve all your senses. Smell the sea air and feel the heat of the sun on you.

2) Positive Affirmations - affirmations are statements about what you want to do or achieve in the world. These positive statements are repeated continuously out loud. An example could be "I am relaxed and calm in every situation". The statements should be in the present tense.

3) Practice Yoga - Yoga is great discipline for relaxing the mind and exercising the body. The breathing exercises that accompany yoga practice are particularly good for helping relaxation.

4) No TV Night - Instead of automatically reaching for the TV remote control when you get home, have an evening or make a 2 hour space for there to be no TV. Watching television with its emphasis on negative news stories can bring you down. Instead, use the time to read a book or learn a new skill. Is there something you have always wanted to do, like learn a foreign language or musical instrument? Now is your chance!

5) Positive Journal - keep a journal of all the things that are great about your life. Writing things down helps us to appreciate what we have got. Include your family, friends, health and possessions. You'll soon realize that you have got a lot to be thankful for.

Celebrities use them, should you? Find out about the detox body wrap at http://www.bodydetoxplan.com. You'll also learn the basics of body cleansing detoxification.

Is Fatigue Keeping You From Loosing Weight

Stress hormones can cause female and male hormone problems, weight gain, and chronic illness. How can this be true? Cortisol, epinephrine, and other stress hormones can drain you bodies health, vitality and even contribute to infertility unless you learn how to control these stress hormones.

What you eat and how you handle stress can drive you body into blood sugar instability, weight gain, sleep disturbance and exhaustion that lead to weight gain and chronic illness.

Adrenal glands are stress handling glands that produce a variety of hormones that help you handle all types of stress-mental, emotional or physical. The adrenals function to keep your body in a dynamic balance during whatever external or internal changes or challenges you face.

They control fluid balance, blood sugar balance, inflammatory and anti-inflammatory responses, and immune system response. Your looks and weight are indirectly controlled by the stress hormones.

The adrenals produce steroid hormones which are the hormones that determine overall strength, and stamina. They are the backup to the sex hormones, and so are vital for everything from fertility to pregnancy to menopause and include anti-aging hormones. Every cell in the body is effected by the hormones released by the adrenal glands. Adrenal health is the key to health and anti-aging.

A healthy diet will help balance blood sugar and hormone levels, help with adrenal fatigue, prevent energy and mood ups and downs, and promote proper weight.

What is a proper healthy diet? You have heard about the Mediterranean diet and it is probably the best place to start and then modify to your preferences.

Eat every two hours, always add protein to your meals and snacks, eat real whole, fresh food, salt your food with sea salt and drink plenty of water.

When you eat every two hours you relieve the stress handling hormones of the task of keeping your blood sugar levels normal between meals that gives them a break. Epinephrine and cortisol are responsible for this, they also cause weight gain so you do not want an excess in you blood stream. Eating frequently, but only the right foods keeps you blood sugar levels normal without the addition of stress hormones. Avoid dead, junk foods. Healthy bodies do not come from eating these foods. They are missing nutrients and rob the remaining nutrient stores from your body. Avoid trans fats they interfere with the functions of the cell membranes. Drink pure water as your primary beverage along with decaffeinated green and herbal teas, reduce to a minimum fruit juices and consume fresh whole fruit when you want a sweet snack. Low salt diets contribute to adrenal fatigue, so use sea salt on your food it looks and taste like regular salt but contains trace minerals that have been refined out of regular salt.

What to eat? Seven or more servings of vegetables and fruits should be you daily goal. Vegetables and fruits should be fresh not frozen or canned. Eat a natural source of protein, organic meats, vegetable protein including peas, beans, lentils, and nuts. Eat organic grains in their whole form and as sprouts in bread. The majority of your diet should be proteins, fats and vegetables next complex carbohydrates such as whole grain breads, and grains. Fruit should be the smallest and the last category. Commercially prepared foods, margarine and vegetable shortening all cause stress in the body; cut them out.

Relax and consider yourself blessed to know what you know about health and apply what you know to live a long stress free life.

How do you know if you are overweight?

After days of plowing through online articles and printed materials for fat loss, I realise there are numerous ways used to determine a healthy weight. Basically, being heavy ain't bad if you are say a non drug abusing body builder or wrestler. Nobody would consider them unhealthy in their muscle clad bodies since muscle is good tissue!

It is the measurement of the amount of body fat that will tell us whether we are healthy or unhealthy. There are various ways to measure that. We have the popular body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, waist to hop ratio, skinfold, bioelectric impedence analysis (BIA), DEXA, near infrared (NIR) interactance, hydrostatic weighing and air displacement.

Body Mass Index

This is a weight to height ratio and the resultant index gives an indication of one's body fat percentage and one's risk to obesitiy related diseases. The formula is as follows:

BMI = Weight(KG) / ( Height (m) x Height (m) )

This is by far the most common form of measurement but it has its limitation since it assumes one has a "typical" build. Body builders and wrestlers ain't your typical build so the BMI is not useful in those cases. Children should refer to an age and gender specific BMI chart.

Waist Circumference

If you notice, different people store fat differently expecially between women and men. Men tend to store fat around the abdomen area and women around the hips and thighs. The measurement of waist circumeference provides information about the distribution of one's body fat and risks to obesity related conditions.

To measure waist circumference, a measuring tape of adequate length is required. The correct position for measuring waist circumference is midway between the upper hip bone and the lowest point of the rib cage. Measurement with the tape should be taken at this midway point. In cases where the mid point cannot be found (in very overweight people), placing the tape at the level of the belly button will have to do.

Waist to Hip Ratio

This is basically the ratio of the waist circumference to the hip ratio. In addition to measuring the waist circumference, the hip circumference is also measured and the resultant waist to hip ratio is used as an indication of risk to coronary heart disease.

Skinfold

This method is done by measuring a pinch of skin by calipers at serveral standardised points on the body to determine the subcutaneous fat layer thickness. An equation is then used to estimate the body fat percentage based on the measurement taken.

Bioelectrical Impedence Analysis

A common method used for estimating body composition. BIA measures the opposition to the flow of an electric current through the body fluids contained in the lean and fat tissue. Impedance is low in lean tissue and high in fat tissue. Hence the amount of electrical inpedance gives an estimate amount of fat in the body.

Near Infrared Interactance

This is based on the principles of light absorbtion , reflectance, and near infrared spectroscopy. A computerized spectrophotometer that has a scan and probe are used. The probe is placed onto a selected body site such as the biceps and it emitts an infrared light which passes through both fat and muscle and is reflected back to the probe. Differences in optical density as a result of difference in body composition, are measured to give an indirect measurement of body fat.

DEXA

DEXA uses two X-ray energies to measure body fat, muscle, and bone mineral. It takes approximately 10 to 20 mins for a full body scan. The results may be viewed as whole body estimates of body fat, muscle, and bone mineral as well as regional body estimates.

Hydrostatic Weighing

This method uses Archimedes principle which states that when a body is submerged in water, there is a buoyant counter force equal to the weight of the water which is displaced. Equipment for such measurement are usually found in research laboratories.

Air Displacement

This method is based on the same principle as hydrostatic weighing. Instead of using water to measure body volume, air displacement is used to measure body volume.

7 Stop Smoking Tips to Help You Cope with the Cravings

Maybe you have researched different ways to quit smoking and are ready to stop for good. Whatever aid you choose to help stop smoking, there are other things you can do to help you succeed.

For instance, if you think that the sight of cigarettes or related paraphernalia might give you the urge to relapse and take the smoking habit back up, it would be best to banish all such items from your sight. Habits like smoking can be in part triggered by visual cues, so get those cigarettes, lighters, matches and ashtrays out of sight.

There is a lot of truth to the adage "out of sight, out of mind", at least when it comes to quitting smoking. You'll make it that much easier on yourself by getting those reminders out of the way.

A common stumbling block that can lead to failure is keeping cigarettes around. It is far too easy to rationalize "just one" cigarette. Keep them away, and you'll be much less tempted to relapse.

No matter how well you manage to hide the reminders and temptations, you are almost sure to have withdrawal symptoms. Get ready for these; they may pass within the first week, or persist as long as a month.

The first few days will be the biggest hurdle, so be prepared for the worst. A stop smoking program may help prepare you for withdrawal, or at the very least let you know what to expect.

There will of course be cravings for cigarettes and increased appetite. These are typical withdrawal symptoms. Here are seven coping strategies for withdrawal to help you succeed:

1. Headaches and dizziness are common when you first quit. Over the counter pain relievers such as aspirin, as well as cold compresses are usually effective in managing these symptoms.

2. Fatigue during the first two to four weeks are reported by many who quit, but can be greatly reduced by maintaining an exercise routine and making sure to get enough sleep. Also, some have success with meditation. When you're trying to quit smoking, any strategy is worth trying.

3. Coughing will likely increase for a short time after you quit, while your lungs attempt to rid themselves of the residue left by smoking. The cough will disappear gradually over several days; be patient. It can be helpful to sip water or have a cough drop or piece of hard candy.

4. Tightness in the chest may occur during the first week. Breathe deeply and relax - it will pass soon enough.

5. Difficulty sleeping is common in the first few days without cigarettes. Try to avoid caffeine late in the day as well strenuous activity right before going to sleep, drink a glass of milk, or take a hot bath.

6. Constipation may occur. Make sure to get plenty of fiber (fruits, vegetables, and grains are good sources), drink lots of water, and get some exercise in daily, and you should have no problem.

7. Difficulty concentrating may occur during the first few weeks. If losing focus becomes a problem take a break and do something physical for a few minutes.

Use whichever of these seven tips you need to help you succeed and become a non-smoker. What better gift can you give yourself than to stop smoking?

Best Way To Lose Weight

Many people who attempt to lose weight do so by trying to cut back on the amount of food they eat. Now while this may work to a certain extent in the short term, it certainly is not a long term solution and definitely not the best way to lose weight. There is even a chance that if you cut out too much food from your diet that it could have a negative effect on your health. On top of this a large drop in calories is associated with starvation mode, which will actually prevent you from losing weight successfully.

Crash diets are probably the unhealthiest ways to lose weight. When your body doesn't receive an adequate amount of calories, it slows its abilities to burn calories effectively. This can often lead to feelings of ill health, a weakened immune system and potential illness. If your body does not receive enough calories through eating, it will have to find them from somewhere else. Your body will take the calories from the protein in your muscles. This will results in your muscles becoming much weaker and smaller, leading to more tiredness. You may lose weight this way but most of it will be muscle weight and not fat weight. It is the fat that needs to be shifted and not the muscle. Nobody has ever felt bad or had low self esteem because they had too much muscle.

When it comes to changing your diet so that you can reach your weight loss goals there are 2 things that you need to do. Firstly cut out all the calories from unhealthy foods and replace them with calories from healthy foods. If you feel that you are consuming too many calories regardless of the source, and then simply cut out no more than 500 calories per day from your diet. Anything around 300-500 will be fine. Cut out too many and yes you've guessed it: you hit starvation mode. The second thing that you will have to do is to eat more often. This means instead of consuming your daily calories within 2 or 3 meals spread them out to 5 or 6 meals. This needs to be done because your body can only digest a certain amount of food. Any extra will be stored as fat. Smaller meals have less chance of being stored as fat because your body can digest and use most of it.

Exercise is a must if you want to lose weight. You should engage in cardio and resistance exercise. Resistance exercise involves training with weights. Training with weights will increase the size of your muscles. The more muscle you have the more calories you will burn, so if you increase your muscle mass, you will increase the amount of calories you burn, and this equals fat loss. Cardio exercise is also required for fat loss. Apart from losing weight other benefits will include a stronger heart, better oxygen intake, more energy, and general all round health.

This last step should have actually been the first step but I left it until last because it only becomes a problem a few weeks after starting a weight loss program. This is the question of motivation and willpower. Many people fail to keep up the motivation to lose weight after a short period of time and give up trying. One of the main reasons behind this is due to having unrealistic goals. These probably come from the way many diets and weight loss products are advertised. If you expect to lose 30 or 40 pounds a month, you can forget it! Your body cannot lose this amount of weight in a safe and effective way.

You must set realistic goals, losing 2 or possibly 3 pounds of weight a week is a more realistic view. Your body can cope with this amount of weight loss and mentally so can you. This may not sound like a lot when you compare it to what some dubious weight loss products or diets claim. However it is precisely those people who use these types of products and diets, that fail to lose weight and give up trying. A realistic approach will ensure that you lose weight on a regular basis and ensure that the weight will stay off. All this can be achieved without having a negative impact on your health, and with testing your motivation and willpower too much.

You don't need diet pills, weight loss supplements or popular fad diets to lose weight. All you need is a realistic approach, a healthy diet, and a good exercise program consisting of cardio training and weight training. This without doubt is the best way to lose weight.

Flip Your Fat Switch to “Burn”: 4 Simple Nutrition Steps

It’s a known fact that too high of a percentage of American’s are overweight and many of these people have difficulty getting the best term life insurance rates. There are over 60 million Americans who aren’t just considered overweight but considered obese. Sure, it’s easy to say if someone is comfortable with how he or she looks and how he or she feels, others shouldn’t judge. Judging isn’t necessarily the issue but rather health is the issue. The media has begun to pick up on the negative effects that being overweight can have on the human body. Because of these negative effects, term life insurance companies, whether they are handing out term life insurance policies, or more permanent policies, have started to take notice.

Term Life Insurance and Health

Term life insurance companies are consistently looking out for trends that can be harmful to one’s health. The life insurance companies want their customers to live long lives. Whether you are applying for a term life insurance policy or a permanent life insurance policy, anything that may have an affect on your health will affect the amount that you’re paying. When an insurance company finds something that means you may have a shorter life span, your rates for insurance may be higher.

What is a Healthy Weight?

Being slightly over your “healthy weight” is not a major issue, and should not affect your life insurance premiums at all. Being significantly overweight cannot only hurt your health and your quality of life, but it can also affect your insurance premium and policy approval rate. According to research of obesity and being overweight, those who are between 35% and 40% overweight, are twice as likely to die prematurely. This should not come as a surprise to anyone. Being overweight can cause issues for the entire body, including circulation and heart problems.

If you’re overweight, you may pay a higher premium for term life insurance as your health exam may reveal other health issues that you may not be aware of. This means that the more you weigh, you’re not only hurting your body but also your wallet. While this has become an epidemic across the nation, there are certain states that have made the so-called “top ten” for obese states in the US. These are the states that have the worst cases of obesity with their citizens. Being on this list may mean that the term life insurance premium hike caused by added weight could be even worse in your state.

Term Life Insurance With States Having the Highest Overweight Population

Mississippi takes the lead as the most obese state in the US. This is followed by West Virginia, Alabama and Louisiana. South Carolina and Tennessee are tied to round out the top five states as far as obesity is concerned. If you are in these 6 states, and are considering term life insurance, you will want to be sure to shop around for quotes from different life insurance companies, as they may take even closer note of obesity, since it runs rampant in your state. Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana, Michigan, and Oklahoma round out the top ten of the most obese states in the nation.

Term Life Insurance for the Healthy

For those who do not suffer from being overweight or obese, you are in luck. Because of the rising cost of insuring those who are overweight and obese, staying within your healthy weight range will help keep your insurance costs lower. Losing weight can actually help you lower the cost of your term life insurance, as companies look for incentives to get people to be healthier and live longer lives. Make sure that your life insurance company actually has these premium incentives. If not, and if you’re planning on losing weight, you may consider switching providers to take full benefit of your weight loss.

Being overweight can hurt you while trying to find affordable quotes for term life insurance. Try to lose weight, or find a plan that is willing to work with you. This can help you save money and still qualify for the best coverage with the lowest premiums.

Risk Factors of Obesity

Do you ever wonder why so many people are overweight and on a diet today, and why weight loss is on everyone’s mind?

Do you ever wonder what is triggering the physiology of so many people to store so much fat and feel like they have a food addiction or food compulsion?

If you struggle with your weight, this is a "must ask" question. Wisdom quickly reveals a timeless truth: we cannot change or manage what we do not understand. As you begin to understand what is driving the current obesity epidemic, you begin to see the "bullets" that must be dodged.

Current National Institutes of Health (NIH) reveal that sixty-five percent of US adults are overweight (above ideal body weight), and that thirty-three percent are obese (20% or more above ideal body weight). Further, we have watched these numbers climb consistently over the last fifty years.

Just a few short years ago, my grandparents' generation (born around 1890) enjoyed what seemed like an inalienable right to a slim and fit physique. Not so today. What is causing this relatively sudden obesity epidemic? An understanding of the answer to this question should reveal clues to the solution (hint: it has little to do with "willpower" - the current generation has not all of the sudden "lost its will"!).

What has changed in the last fifty to one hundred years? The most profound nutrition change is the introduction of high starch, high sugar, nutrient poor, explosive tasting … stuff in boxes, bags and packages (I cannot bring myself to call this stuff food - and your body agrees!) in massive quantities.

This type of food, for most of us, is like flipping the fat switch to "store". The good news is that if it can be flipped to "store", it can be flipped back to "burn"!

Are you interested in learning to flip your "fat switch" to burn? Of course you are! In the process you will likely achieve the following "bonuses":

- Decrease food cravings,
- Decrease drive to overeat
- Decrease carbohydrate difficulty
- Decrease emotional eating
- Decrease binge eating
- Decrease fatigue
- Decrease depressive tendency

There are four clinically proven nutrition steps that will achieve the above (which would be considered a miracle if a medication did it!):

1) Eat protein each time you eat (try one ounce for snacks and three to four ounces for meals).

2) Minimize (note: I did NOT write "avoid" - be cautious about triggering deprivation) intake of insulin stimulating - imagine turning the "fat storage switch" on - high glycemic carbohydrates (sugary foods, bread, cereal, pasta, baked goods, potato, rice, etc.) - save them for special occasions or important times.

3) Eat a minimum of five to six times per day. As hunger goes up, freedom to choose goes down; frequent eating tends to be healthful and is an effective technique to manage blood sugar and insulin (and the "fat storage switch"!).

4) Consume the supplemental nutrients and herbs that science has proven important for blood sugar regulation and insulin function (chromium, biotin, omega-3 fatty acids, vanadium, vitamin E, Zinc, Alpha Lipoic Acid, Cinnamon, gymnema sylvestra, bitter melon, to name a few).

To strengthen this response even more…

5) Live an active lifestyle.

6) Sleep eight to nine hours between 9:00pm and 7:00am, the earlier the better. Rule out sleep apnea; you can evaluate yourself with an online evaluation on many of the sleep apnea sites.

7) Engage some form of stress management (deep breathing, yoga, meditation, etc.).

Keeping both the mind and the body healthy

The pharmaceutical company, Sanofi-Aventis, has always promoted acomplia as achieving the best results when combined with a low-calorie diet and exercise. There is a simple explanation for this. People who are sufficiently motivated will lose weight if they reduce their calorie intake below their normal daily requirement and increase their metabolic rate through exercise. This forces the body to burn fat as stored energy to fill the gap. So why take acomplia? In the clinical trials, many of the people on placebo also lost weight.

There is another simple explanation. It is an application of the placebo effect. When people believe strongly enough that a medication is effective, it will produce the relevant healing effect. Even though a tablet is actually chemically inert, it can heal in the right context. More importantly, the placebo effect amplifies the therapeutic effect of all real medications. So back to the question of why anyone should use acomplia.

The answer depends on the precise effect that acomplia has. This medication is specifically designed to help people feel less hungry. Hunger is the psychological trigger to eating. Thus, if people feel only slightly hungry, they will naturally eat less leading to two opposing statements:

Acomplia should therefore not be seen as a weight reduction medication.

Acomplia should therefore be seen as a weight reduction medication.

Both statements are true consequences. Acomplia is not in itself a “fat buster”. The active chemical ingredients do not circulate through the body via the blood stream metaphorically killing fat cells whenever they find them. It is only a psychological prop to help people maintain their motivation to diet. The body will lose weight naturally if people consume more energy than they take in. If people feel less hungry, this is easier to achieve. Now let us go back to the idea of a placebo making a drug more effective. If everyone believes that acomplia is a fat buster, then it is more likely that people will lose more weight using it.

Now to add one further reason for following the formula of acomplia + diet + exercise. It is suggested that acomplia is associated with mood changes. In this respect, the research published in the April edition of Br. J. Sports Med. makes interesting reading. It has always been intuitively obvious that regular physical activity helps to improve mood, although no-one has ever been able to suggest exactly how much of whatever activity achieves this effect. All researchers have said is that if the physical activity is affecting the body positively, the body releases dopamine to reinforce the sense of pleasure or enjoyment and so encourage more of the activity.

The study focussed on some 20,000 adult Scottish participants using the General Health Questionnaire. If there is regular activity, there is a clear reduction in the levels of psychological distress after adjusting for factors of age, gender, BMI, smoking, marital status, social economic group, and the presence of any chronic illness. Less frequent activity has an effect, but it is less significant. The strongest effect was obtained through engaging in a sport, but there were also good results from gardening and other hobby activities involving physical exercise. Even twenty minutes per week had a good effect on mood.

Thus, whether by accident or design, the linkage between acomplia and physical exercise is genuinely valuable. If acomplia does potentially have an adverse effect on mood, this may to some extent be relieved if you are also exercising regularly. This article is not, of course, suggesting that physical activity will be a guaranteed cure for any looming depression. But whether you exercise to lose weight or to improve your mood, acomplia with exercise is obviously going to be better than acomplia without exercise.

Tips for safe blood pressure

Somewhere around 25 million Americans are currently taking high blood pressure drugs of some kind. These medications consist primarily of diuretics, beta-blockers, calcium antagonists, and ACE inhibitors. But they tend to produce some serious side-effects if taken for too long a time: elevated blood sugar, depression, high cholesterols aggravated asthma, potassium deficiency, and cardiac arrhythmia.

An interesting report authored by M. Cohen, J. Josimovich, and P. J Lefebvre appeared in the scientific journal Clinical Science (81:739-42) in 1991. It was entitled, "Anti-Oxidants Show an Anti-Hypertensive Effect in Diabetic and Hypertensive Subjects." It demonstrated that such substances substantially lower blood pressure levels when used with consistency.

Spices are one important class of antioxidants. Besides garlic and onion, there are rosemary, sage, thyme, marjoram, and oregano. When regularly used in cooking, they hold blood pressure within safe limits. Besides this, there is the obvious benefit of making things taste better. If I had to choose another spice to go with garlic and onion, I would have to pick turmeric. This is ALA hair ingredient in curry powder. It has a decided therapeutic advantage in the liver. The Sabinsa Corporation of Piscataway New Jersey, market a product called Curcumin C-3 Complex, which is the only standardized turmeric extract of high quality currently available. Taking some of this everyday will help to bring stability to elevated blood pressure. Within each of our brains, resides a tiny organ known as the pineal gland. It is about the shape and size of a single kernel of corn. Some consider it to be one of the body's "master glands" responsible for performing many multiple functions. One of these is the production of the hormone melatonin, about which much has been written of late.

As we become older, a number of vital hormones begin declining: testosterone, estrogen, growth hormone, DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone), and, of course, melatonin. At one time the slow loss of these hormones was seen as a consequence of old age, but now their losses could actually contribute to the aging process. Which means that replacing them might just extend our youthfulness a little longer.

A lady judge (aged 54) I know of, discovered her blood pressure was 167 over 115, making her case extremely bad. She went to a local health food store (New Frontiers Natural Foods Market & Deli) and informed a clerk of her problem. The clerk suggested she try some melatonin, which proved to be helpful for her honor. She took two 3-milligram tablets every day for two months. By then, another check of her blood pressure showed it had dropped to borderline levels: 141 over 105.

Stop Drinking Now...Do I Drink OTT?

On first impression I'd say that it seems to be a quite an ordinary question that one would ask one self, but could you really tell whether you had a serious drinking problem, I ask myself.

The incredible truth is that in fact most people throughout the world are just not capable of owning up to their alcohol drinking condition. People just tend to remain blind to the fact and simply refuse to make an effort to change their sorry lives. You can take it for granted too that these sort of people are not the types for owning up to their addiction to alcohol.

Well we may just ask ourselves just what are the first signs of having a drinking problem. The answer is simple enough and it's just by analysing our own behaviour. It may appear that any diagnosis of alcoholism would be quite obvious, and it is if you follow a logical pattern as you would with an ordinary illness.

Let's now go over 11 questions that we should probably be asking ourselves. If you believe that you can associate yourself with any of these points then you shouldn't be in two minds about getting treatment urgently... 1 - Do my drinking habits get me into deep shite? 2 - Am I always happy to drink more even once I've reached my limit? 3 - Is this the first time I am considering quitting? 4 - Have I begun hiding booze around the house? 5 - Am I more forgetful after drinking?

6 - Does Alcohol turn me into someone else? 7 - Do I tend to be a pain in the but while drinking? 8 - When I get down or sad , do I start sniffing for booze with amazing speed? 9 - Do you tend to fall out with family and friends under the influence? 10 - Do you worry that drinking affects your health constantly? 11 - Have you actually ever asked yourself what life could really be like without alcohol?

The time has come to quite honest with yourself and admit to how many of these points are real in your life. If that should be three or more then you need medical help fast.

Is is quite incredible that most people who actually decide to take those initial steps do manage to quit drinking or just on special occasions. So don't waste any more time and get over to StopDrinkingAdvice.org and download their free report "Discover How To Permanently Stop Drinking Alcohol Within 21 Days Or Less. Reduce Stress

When stress overwhelms you chunk the task into smaller steps. Completing smaller tasks will make the stress more manageable and will increase your ability to reduce stress.

When everything happens all at once--this is stress. How do you manage the stress in your life?

Let's start by taking a deep breath and relaxing. Get your mind off the issue and try doing this for a change? Look what your reaction is to the problem. How does that sound? Before you think too hard about that, take a walk or do some kind of activity that will give you a fresh perspective on things.

Something else that is very helpful is to use a notebook of good thoughts that make you feel great. When you come across a statement that clears your head, write it down in the notebook and can carry it around with you. If you experience anxiety, open up your notebook and recall a postitve thought.

In addressing your anxieties, take one day at a time. Rather than centring on inflated assumptions that might or might not happen, concentrate on the present and rely on the realities of the present state of affairs.

Your anxieties can occasionally get the worst of you. They might take hard work and perseverance, but it is conceivable to find answers in managing your anxieties. It is important to realize that not all stress is bad for you. Some stress makes life interesting; it can force you to accomplish your goals. Because we cannot break loose every stress, it is crucial to learn to control stress.

Everybody has stress in his or her life. So, there is no one answer for addressing stress. For instance, someone who thrives on constant change would be bored in a job that is dull, while a person that avoids change would be full of anxiety and stress in a high-energy position.

Illnesses are directly related to stress. If you are always sick or fatigued, or you are anxious, it's time to learn to contend with your stress. Stress management takes practice. If you hold on, you will overcome the art of dealing with stress.

What things cause your stress? Is it your commute? Preparing for a public speaking engagement? Dealing with your kids after school? Most of these things are inescapable, but these stresses are still manageable. If your morning commute stresses you, try leaving for work a few minutes sooner. If speaking horrifies you, try thinking that the audience is in their underwear. If your kids disturb you, set up activities that you can all enjoy together. It's important to understand what causes your stress, and dream up ways that you can deal with them.

It's vital to reduce your emotional responses to your stressful situations. Stress can cause you to produce negative thoughts, and you will act accordingly. It may be better to think of stress as an opportunity for improvement. If you overreact to every situation, back up and evaluate every time you lash out, and dream up ways to cope. You might not be able to do anything about your stressors, but you can control how you respond to them.

What are your physical reactions to stress? Start deep breathing techniques to lower your heart rate. If your physical responses to stress are dangerous, seek a alternative health provider to help you avert high blood pressure or heart problems. Occasionally the best way to avoid stress is by taking a time out in order to reorganize and freshen up.

Another awesome way to battle stress is to do some kind of movement. Do some aerobic exercise and strength training. Those are powerful outlets for stress. Eat a healthy, well-balanced diet, and avoid all kinds of drugs. Get a good night’s sleep every night.

Following these great ideas will help you to reduce your stress.

What is Dysentery and what are it’s main causes?

What is Dysentery?

Dysentery is an infection that usually causes diarrhea. The infection is often passed on through improper hygiene. One of the most common causes of dysentery is not washing the hands after using public toilets.

It is a condition characterised by inflammation of the bowels. The inflammation results in severe stomach pains. Dysentery also involves severe diarrhea that is often associated with bood in the feces. Diarrhea can be fatal too if the body dehydrates completely.

It is a disease involving the inflammation of the lining of the large intestines. The inflammation causes stomach pains and diarrhoea.

Dysentery is spread from person to person. It is very common for one person in a family to pass it on to the rest of the family members. From there, it can be passed on to numerous people in the general public. The infection can last and be spread for around four weeks.

It is a more serious form of diarrhea, where the stools are tinged with blood and mucus. The diarrhea can be quite severe, characterized by colicky pains and frequent urging. Stools can be passed as often as fifteen to thirty times per day. The onset is typically sudden, accompanied by a high fever and thirst. The illness causes great fatigue and depletion of strength. Dehydration is a serious side-effect, especially if the person becomes too weak to drink enough liquids.

There are two main types of dysentery: bacillary and amoebic dysentery.

Bacillary Dysentery It is estimated that in some parts of the tropics 80% of the children acquire bacillary dysentery before the age of five; the mortality rate is high among infants and the aged if the infection is not treated, preferably with a broad-spectrum antibiotic.

Amebic Dysentery Amebic dysentery is prevalent in regions where human excrement is used as fertilizer; in some such regions over half the population probably harbors the amebic cyst. The cyst is the inactive, resistant stage in which the ameba is transmitted from one host to another; the active form is that which causes damage.

What are the main causes of Dysentery?

The condition is caused by bacteria which usually enter the body through the mouth in contaminated food or water, or by physical contact with a person who has already been infected.

The bacterium Shigella dysenteriae type 1 (Sd1) causes a particularly severe form of the disease known as epidemic dysentery.

The Shigella and Campylobacter bacteria that cause bacilliary dysentery are found all over the world. They penetrate the lining of the intestine, causing swelling, ulcerations, and severe diarrhea containing blood and pus.

most cases are spread through families and where people are in close contact, such as schools, nurseries, military bases and day-centres. The disease can be spread up to four weeks from infection into the body.

Dysentery is also spread through food that has come into contact with water contaminated with human sewage, such as in countries with poor sanitation systems.

Dysentery is rarely caused by chemical irritants or by intestinal worms.

Having sex that involves anal contact may spread amoebic and bacilliary dysentery.

What is Syphilis and what are the main causes of Syphilis?

Syphilis- introduction

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) or sexually transmitted infection (STI) that, when left untreated, can progress to a late stage that causes serious health problems. The infection alternates with periods of being active and inactive (latent). When the infection is active, symptoms occur. But when the infection is latent, no symptoms appear even though you still have syphilis.

Anyone who comes into close physical contact with a person who has syphilis can develop syphilis. You don't have to have sexual intercourse to get syphilis-exposure can result from close contact with an infected person's genitals, mouth, or rectum.

The condition is often asymptomatic in the early stages but one or more sores may be present in the early stages. Untreated syphilis usually results in remission of visible symptoms but further severe damage may occur to internal organs and other body tissues which can result in death.

What are the causes of Syphilis ?

Syphilis is caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum.

The spirochete is a wormlike, spiral-shaped organism that wiggles vigorously when viewed under a microscope. It infects the person by burrowing into the moist, mucous-covered lining of the mouth or genitals. The spirochete produces a classic, painless ulcer known as a chancre.

Syphilis is an infectious, often sexually transmitted, disease caused by the bacteria Treponema pallidum. The bacteria penetrate chafed skin or the mucous membranes.

The bacterium spreads from the initial ulcer of an infected person to the skin or mucous membranes of the genital area, the mouth, or the anus of a sexual partner. It also can pass through broken skin on other parts of the body. The syphilis bacterium is very fragile, and the infection is almost always spread by sexual contact. In addition, a pregnant woman with syphilis can pass the bacterium to her unborn child, who may be born with serious mental and physical problems as a result of this infection. But the most common way to get syphilis is to have sex with someone who has an active infection.

Transmission most often occurs when one person comes into contact with lesions on an infected person through sexual activity.

Men are more vulnerable to contracting syphilis than women.

The active disease is found most often among men and women aged 15-39 years.

Some other reasons of causing Syphilis:

Transfusion of infected blood.
Direct contact with a syphilis sore on the body of an infected person.
An infected pregnant woman can also pass the disease to her unborn child.
Having with more than one partner.

Symptoms of Syphilis

Some sign and symptoms related to Syphilis are as follows:
The first symptom of syphilis is often a small, round, firm ulcer called a chancre ("shanker") at the place where the bacteria entered your body.
Fever.

Enlarged lymph nodes in your groin.

Positive serology.

Extragenital chancres occur most commonly above the neck, typically affecting the lips or oral cavity.

Rash - Bilaterally symmetric.

Soreness and aching.

Fatigue and a vague feeling of discomfort.

Close sexual contact with an infected person.

An infected mother can pass on the infection to the child during birth.

What is Typhoid and what are its main causes?

What is Typhoid?

Typhoid fever is an acute illness associated with fever caused by the Salmonella typhi bacteria. It can also be caused by Salmonella paratyphi, a related bacterium that usually causes a less severe illness. The bacteria are deposited in water or food by a human carrier and are then spread to other people in the area.

Typhoid fever is a systemic infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serotype typhi, which is acquired by ingestion of contaminated food and water. Each year the disease affects at least 16 million persons world-wide, most of whom reside in the developing countries of Southeast Asia and Africa. In Italy the disease is uncommon with a greater number of cases in Southern regions than in Northern ones.

It is a common disease in the sub continent and affects all age groups. The poor hygiene conditions, open sanitation habits, flies, sale of exposed food, and illiteracy is responsible for this disease. The disease is transmitted from human to human via food or drinking water, and it is therefore mainly hygiene and sanitary conditions that determine its spread. Vaccines against typhoid fever are available, but they're only partially effective and are usually reserved for people who may be exposed to the disease or are traveling to areas where typhoid fever is endemic.

What are main causes of Typhoid?

Typhoid fever is caused by a virulent bacterium called Salmonella typhi. Although they're related, this isn't the same as the bacteria responsible for salmonellosis, another serious intestinal infection.

Salmonella

Salmonella (S.) is the genus name for a large number (over 2,500) of types of bacteria. Each type is distinctly identifiable by its specific protein coating. The types are otherwise closely related. Salmonella bacteria are rod-shaped, flagellated, Gram stain-negative and are known to cause disease in humans, animals, and birds (especially poultry) worldwide.

S. typhi are spread by contaminated food, drink, or water. Following ingestion, the bacteria spread from the intestine via the bloodstream to the intestinal lymph nodes, liver, and spleen via the blood where they multiply.

Salmonella may directly infect the gallbladder through the hepatic duct or spread to other areas of the body through the bloodstream.

Early symptoms are generalized and include fever, malaise and abdominal pain. As the disease progresses, the fever becomes higher (greater than 103 degrees Fahrenheit), and diarrhea becomes prominent. Weakness, profound fatigue, delirium, and an acutely ill appearance develop.

A rash, characteristic only of typhoid and called "rose spots," appears in some cases of typhoid. Rose spots are small (1/4 inch) red spots that appear most often on the abdomen and chest. Typically, children have milder disease and fewer complications than adults.

The bacteria that cause typhoid fever spread through contaminated food or water.

Some other causes of typhoid:

Typhoid fever can be caused in three main ways:
if contaminated sewage gets into the supply of drinking water,
if an infected person handles food without washing their hands properly, and
if bacteria is transferred to food by flies feeding on infected stools (faeces).
Infection is the most common cause :

Viral (e.g., influenza, HIV, hepatitis, herpes simplex encephalitis, mononucleosis, adenovirus)

Bacterial (e.g., pneumonia, endocarditis, tuberculosis, meningitis, pyelonephritis, appendicitis, cholecystitis, cellulitis)

Lyme disease

Malaria

Syphilis

Tularemia

Intra-abdominal abscess
Malignancy :

Lymphoma (Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's)

Lymphoproliferative disorders

Renal cell carcinoma

Leukemia

Hepatocellular carcinoma
Rheumatologic disorders :

Temporal arteritis/giant cell arteritis

Adult-onset Still's disease

Systemic lupus erythematosus

Sarcoidosis

Rheumatoid arthritis

Whooping Cough- it’s causes

What is Whooping Cough?

Whooping cough (pertussis) is an acute, highly contagious respiratory infection that is caused by a bacterium. The first outbreaks of pertussis were described in the 16th century. The bacterium responsible for the infection, Bordetella pertussis, was not isolated until 1906. The incidence of pertussis has been steadily increasing since the 1980s. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), a total of 25,827 cases of pertussis were reported in 2004 in the U.S.

An infectious condition caused by the bacteria Bordetella pertussis.
Whooping Cough: A species of gram-negative, aerobic bacteria that is the causative agent of WHOOPING COUGH. Its cells are minute coccobacilli that are surrounded by a slime sheath.

Whooping cough can occur at any age, but is is most common in unimmunized children and in infants under 1 year of age.
Whooping cough is also called Pertussis.

What Causes Whooping Cough?

Whooping cough is caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis Bordetella pertussis is also called B. pertussis.

Once inside your airways, the bacteria multiply and produce toxins that interfere with your respiratory tract's ability to sweep away germs. Thick mucus accumulates inside your airways, causing uncontrollable coughing.
The bacteria also cause inflammation that narrows breathing tubes in your lungs. This narrowing leaves you gasping for air — sucking in air with a high-pitched "whoop" — after a fit of coughing.

Whooping cough is spread by contact with droplets coughed out by someone with the disease or by contact with recently contaminated hard surfaces upon which the droplets landed. The bacteria thrive in the respiratory passages where they produce toxins that damage the tiny hairs (cilia) that are needed to remove particulate matter and cellular debris that are normally introduced into the airways with each breath.

Whooping cough is highly contagious. Between 75%-100% of unimmunized household contacts of a person with pertussis will develop the disease.

If one child in a group of siblings gets it, the other children are extremely likely to become infected if they have not already had the disease or been vaccinated.

This also includes babies. Although infants who are breastfed are usually protected against most common childhood infections, they receive no protection against whooping cough. This is why early vaccination is recommended.

Whooping cough is infectious from the first sneezes and throughout the course of the disease, which can last for up to eight weeks. This is a much longer period than with other children's diseases.

Some others causes of Whooping cough :

Whooping cough is caused by inhalation of the airborne droplets of someone infected with pertussis . A person with pertussis who coughs or sneezes around an unvaccinated person may spread the disease readily. Pertussis is a virus, once nearly eradicated in the US after vaccinations became a standard part of well-child examinations.

Recently, however, whooping cough has made somewhat of a comeback because some parents refuse to have their children vaccinated for the illness. Also, those who come to the US illegally may not have received whooping cough vaccinations and may carry the disease into the country, exposing those with either poor immune system or who have not been vaccinated.

What is Smallpox and what are its main causes?

What is Smallpox?

Smallpox is a very serious infection which is caused by a virus named variola, which is a member of the poxvirus family. Smallpox has been a greatly feared disease because it was responsible for huge epidemics. Smallpox gets its name from the pus-filled blisters that form during the illness. Smallpox is not related to chicken pox, which is a milder disease and is caused by a different virus.
Types of smallpox

Two main forms of smallpox exist:

Variola minor. This is a milder form of the disease and causes a less serious illness. It's fatal in less than 1 percent of people who contract it.

Variola major. By contrast, this form of the disease kills one-third of the people it infects.

If a person becomes infected with smallpox, it may take anywhere from 7 to 17 days for symptoms to develop. At first a person may have flu-like symptoms such as high fever, fatigue, headaches, and backaches.
Smallpox affected people of all ages. In temperate zones, incidence was highest during the winter; in the tropics, during the hot, dry months. Smallpox was transmitted directly by respiratory droplets or dried scales of virus-containing lesions or indirectly through contact with contaminated linens or other objects.

Variola major was contagious from onset until after the last scab was shed.
The initial signs and symptoms of smallpox, which appear about two weeks after infection, resemble those of the flu: fever, fatigue and headache. Later, severe pus-filled blisters appear on the skin that eventually leave deep, pitted scars. Once symptoms develop, there's no effective treatment for smallpox and no known cure.

What are the causes of Smallpox?

Variola (the virus that causes smallpox) is a member of the orthopoxvirus genus, which also includes viruses such as cowpox, monkeypox, orf, and molluscum contagiosum. Poxviruses are the largest animal viruses, visible with a light microscope.

After the virus entered the body, there was a 12–14 day incubation period during which the virus multiplied, although no symptoms were recognizable. After the incubation period, symptoms appeared abruptly and included fever and chills, muscle aches, and a flat, reddish purple rash on the chest, abdomen, and back.

Smallpox was a relatively contagious disease. The virus could be transferred from one person to another in a number of ways. A person could catch the virus by touching the lesions of an infected person.

It spreads through tiny drops of the infected person's saliva when the person coughs, talks, or sneezes. Smallpox usually passes from person to person during close, face-to-face contact.

The virus could also be transferred in droplets of moisture produced during coughing or sneezing. And a person could get the virus from books, blankets, utensils, or other objects used by someone with the disease.

Smallpox usually requires face-to-face contact to spread.

Social factors played a major role in the transmission of smallpox. Because it spread by face-to-face contact with another person, it thrived in the crowded conditions of poverty. Smallpox is highly infectious, but it is not as contagious as measles or the flu. If the virus ran out of humans to infect, it could not spread.

How to Dine Out and Still Lose Fat

Copyright (c) 2008 Ed Scow

Have you ever been sitting in a restaurant and wondered how many calories or grams of fat were in the meal you've got in front of you?

No? OK, so you're not as weird about that as me, but I wonder about it all the time, and after reading this maybe you should be too.

Some have the information available upon request, but most don't make it available.

Well, my aunt sent me an email that had the worst restaurant meals and their caloric content and nutritional breakdown.

Here's just a few examples.

McDonald's 5 piece Chicken Selects with ranch sauce has over 800 calories with 55g of fat. 55 Grams of fat! That's insane. Especially when you consider that they advertised them under the guise of healthy food because they were supposed to be chicken breast, but even chicken breast isn't healthy when it's doused in batter and deep fried.

My favorite, though was the smoothie from Jamba Juice. When you hear smoothie you probably think it's healthy, right? That's how they're marketed after all. But this smoothie from Jamba Juice had 900 calories, with 160g of sugar! That's unbelievable!

By the way, those two I just gave you were the "best of the worst". There were plenty with upwards of 1500 and 2000 calories. That's how many calories many people should be consuming in an entire day if they want to lose fat and these entrees (or some appetizers) have them in one shot.

Hearing numbers like that it should be no surprise to anyone that we have an obesity epidemic in this country. We simply eat too much, or don't pay any attention to what's going in our mouths, and don't notice until it's wound up as gooey fat sitting on our gut, butt or thighs.

You should be wary of any meal when dining out. I'm not saying that you shouldn't go out to eat. Quite the contrary. I think it's necessary that we get out of the house and frequent restaurants. I'd go crazy and get cabin fever if I didn't get out of the house and eat at restaurants. What I am saying is that you need to understand that many meals and drinks are not prepared with the idea that they're going to keep your waist line in check.

They are made to taste as good and but as cheaply as possible because restaurants need to make money, after all. So in order to make many foods taste better, they are fried, sauted, or otherwise prepared to increase the fat, because fat makes food taste better, or are smothered in sugar and fat loaded creams and sauces.

So here are a couple tips to watch out for when dining out.

First, avoid the appetizer. Appetizers are usually loaded with fat, and this includes the veggie dishes because they come with some sort of dipping sauce.

Next, avoid anything fried, sauted or cooked in some sort of sauce. It may sound healthy because it's salmon or chicken or vegetarian, but if it's fried, sauted or cooked in sauce, it's high in fat and loaded with calories.

Last, if you've decided that you're going to eat poorly when you're eating in a restaurant, at least get a half order. The proportions on full orders are so out of whack they could feed an entire village in some starving country. So do yourself a favor and just ask for a half order, or split it with whomever you're dining.

Another easy thing to do is to take a drink of water between every bite. Water will fill you up a little faster, which means you won't be able to eat as much, which means you won't store as much fat.

I hope I've enlightened you a little bit, and will begin to eat a little more consciously when you're out and about.

Top Tips On Lowering Blood Pressure Naturally

Many people suffer from the problem but what causes high blood pressure? The truth is that there is more than one cause, all of which can contribute to the symptoms. Poor diet is often a primary cause, as is too much stress coupled with not enough physical exercise. Left unattended, it can lead to more serious conditions. If you want to quickly lower blood pressure, it is important to avoid the risks as early on as possible.

Changing your diet and watching what you eat and drink will greatly help reduce high blood pressure. One of the major causes of high blood pressure is cholesterol. People with high levels of cholesterol are almost certain to have higher blood pressure when compared to someone with a healthy diet. Cholesterol causes fatty deposits to coat the artery walls. Over time these fats form into a hard plaque that reduces the size of arteries and blood vessels making them smaller and smaller. There is still the same amount of blood trying to force it's way through these vessels and this is what can lead to high blood pressure.

Another great way of how to lower high blood pressure is to reduce the amount of sugar in your diet. We all like our sweets and desserts but here again simply by lowering your sugar intake can really help reduce high blood pressure. Eating high amounts of sugar or sugary foods causes your blood to thicken due to the glucose. If your blood is thicker than it normally should be it is again harder to circulate and so causes high blood pressure.

Another good way to help reduce high blood pressure is to cut down on other things that have been shown to be causes of high blood pressure. These include nicotine which is in cigarettes and other tobacco products. Excessive alcohol consumption has also been proved to increase the risk, so by lowering your alcohol intake it will also help reduce high blood pressure, as will cutting down on the amount of caffeine in your diet.

Exercise has also been shown to greatly help reduce high blood pressure, but always consult your Doctor or a medical professional before taking up any strenuous exercise programme, as the wrong type of exercise could make your symptoms worse. Weight lifting is something that should be avoided because this can be very stressful on the heart. Highly intensive cardiovascular workouts are also not good for people with high blood pressure as this type of workout greatly raises your blood pressure.

One of the best ways is through some gentle exercising. And consistent exercise will help you to lower cholesterol levels, lose weight and therefore ultimately affect blood pressure. Exercises such as pilates and yoga are all effective at lowering blood pressure naturally as well as being extremely beneficial to the health of your heart. Whenever exercising, take care to warm up and cool down before and after. This will prevent any dangerous spikes in pressure that could rapidly occur.

By using these simple tips on diet and exercise you will be well on your way to achieving a more normal range blood pressure level and also help reduce high blood pressure in the future.

Your Body Does Not Want You To Lose Weight!

If you've been working on weight loss, this news won't come as a surprise.

Your body works to create a natural balance between intake and output. You may experience initial weight loss, but then hit the dreaded "weight loss plateau" and notice your progress has slowed to a complete stop, even if you are consistently exercising and reducing your calorie intake.

Here are 5 common reasons you hit weight loss plateaus and solution for each.

Problem 1: One problem could be you are reducing your calorie intake too much. To burn calories, it takes calories. When your calorie intake decreases, your body lowers your metabolism. Your body actually begins to require less calories to function. Reducing your calorie intake by 500 or more can cause an increase in hunger, and have your body holding tightly to your stored fat. Talk about frustrating!

Solution 1: You can push through this plateau by keeping your calorie intake to just under your maintenance level which will keep your energy level and metabolism at higher levels.

Problem 2: You may also be suffering from a loss of lean body mass. Your muscles burn fat, and if you lose muscle through weight loss, you are burning fewer calories. It's estimated that lean body mass uses five times as many calories as fat mass, so if you've lost lean body mass, your metabolism slows down, and with it, your weight loss.

Solution 2: To prevent this you want to be sure you keep your body nourished through a healthy diet that includes vitamin supplements if necessary, and by exercising regularly.

Problem 3: Your plateau may be caused because of your weight loss success. Sounds crazy, right? You wanted to lose weight. But don't forget that when you weigh less, your body requires less calories because it takes less energy to move your body.

Solution 3: Include a weight training program to increase your lean body mass which will compensate for the calorie reduction.

Problem 4: Your weight loss program and exercise plan has caused your body to make changes so it can better adjust to it's new routine. Initially your muscles are rebuilding and using lots of calories. However, your body will eventually stop adapting and will burn less calories.

Solution 4: You can counter this by keeping your exercise routine from getting stale. Maintain your body's adaptation phase by varying the intensity, frequency, duration and the types of exercise that make up your fitness program.

Problem 5: Boredom can also sabotage your weight loss plan. If you are bored with your diet, so is your body!

Solution 5: Use your weight loss plan as a reason to try new foods and new recipes. Vary your exercise routine, perhaps changing the environment from time to time. If you regularly visit the gym, try a hike or a jog outside instead. Try to remember that plateaus are just temporary and don't have to become roadblocks. Remain positive, focused, and motivated.

Keep moving... You can push through the plateaus and keep on the road to better health!

Fibromyalgia And Your Diet

Fibromyalgia is otherwise called Muscular Rheumatism, Tension Myalgia or Fibromyositis. This fibromyalgia is a syndrome where the patient suffers from chronic muscle pain. This is complicated syndrome wherein the pain can be all over the body or just in certain muscles around the joints. The majority who are affected by this are women over the age of 30, who suffer from pain in the neck, back and shoulders. They would generally complain of stiffness, tenderness, and pain in the joints. It may seem that the problem is with the joints, but in fact it is a muscular pain that causes the problem. This can appear in anyone including children and men of all races and is the second most common disorder as per rheumatologists.

Due to the steady pain, the person tends to show signs of stress, sleeplessness, extreme moodiness, and even depression. This may not be constant but can escalate with the pain and uneasiness. The cause of this may be due to certain pain stimulating chemicals in the body and the increase or reduction of serotonin in the body making it sensitive to pain. Fibromyalgia causes the pain to be centralized, wherein you feel the pain elsewhere in the brain or spinal cord. This can be triggered with just a slight touch or even external factors like light and sound. It may seem psychological due to this, but in reality the pain is genuine and caused due to these factors.

There is no specific recommended diet for fibromyalgia but a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals can certainly help in coping with the illness. Magnesium rich vegetables are recommended for patient's suffering from fibromyalgia. Cutting down on wheat and dairy products, having food rich in B12 and proteins, avoiding food with yeast and preservatives can also help. Caffeine, aerated drinks, chocolates and tea can be not only healthier but also reduce the symptoms of fibromyalgia. Turmeric is a powerful antiseptic and analgesic, 400-500 mg of turmeric everyday can help reduce inflammation and heal the tender skin. Ginger is also effective in relieving pain in the body. Ginger juice can be mixed with some honey or lemon juice and had as a refreshing drink.

You need to have food that reduces your anxiety levels. Cutting down on coffee can help you sleep better and open up ways to better health as well. Dairy products can be avoided, as they would trigger the irritable bowel syndrome that commonly affects fibromyalgia patients. Dairy products tend to increase anxiety in some patients and have a negative impact on the nervous system. Having whole grain diet affects some who complain of insomnia and muscle tensing. It is better to avoid it since the components are high in phytic acid and subsequently reduce zinc absorption in the system. Plenty of fruits, vegetables and nuts are recommended in the diet, as they are rich in magnesium.

Saturated fats in the diet can help reduce anxiety even though they tend to make you put on weight. Research has shown that the anxiety levels in the person decreased with the increase in cholesterol levels in the person. Spices tend to increase anxiety; hence, a less spicy diet can have calming effect, as it does not stimulate the body or the mind. Acidic food can reduce the absorption of magnesium, which helps relax the muscles. When there is a magnesium deficiency, the muscles tend to get cramped and tense. Plenty of vegetable juices and soups along with coconut water or any fresh juice can be very refreshing and healthy. Just the simple green salad with lemon juice dressing can be full of the necessary vitamins.

Patients with Fibromyalgia symptoms should avoid vegetables like broccoli, okra, potatoes, and cabbage. They should make it a routine to sleep early in order to avoid stress and fatigue. Some of the patients who suffer from this prolonged joint pain can be allergic to wheat. A gluten free diet is recommended for them, foods that can be avoided are high fat dairy products, fried foods, red meat etc. Research has shown that food rich in sodium and fried stuff can aggravate the pain and inflammation. As mentioned there no specific diet for fibromyalgia, you could try each one and decide which one suits you best as health food and as a way to nursing yourself back to health.

8 Simple Tips for Healthy Diet

All the determination in the world to lose weight won't make a bit of difference if you're hanging onto an unhealthy set of dietary commandments that drive you unconsciously to eat at the wrong times or for the wrong reasons.

If you are on a diet, no doubt you are ready to get all the tips possible that have to do with weight loss. Losing weight is not always easy, and from time to time it is easy to get into a slump.

Here are eight simple tips on how you actually can get closer to your ideal weight:

1. Eating won't make you fat after 7 p.m.
It's not because calories consumed after a certain hour stay with you longer. The real problem with most people is, when they eat late at night, they're typically skipping meals during the day, said Annie Neuendorf, a dietician at Northwestern Memorial's Wellness Institute. That puts the body into deprivation mode, slowing your metabolism and making you more inclined to overeat later on. Better to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a pauper.

2. Eating out?
Restaurant portions tend to be enormous, and if it's on the plate, we tend to eat it. If it's possible, order from the kid’s menu, where portions are more reasonably sized.

3. You can treat yourself once a week
You can't be good all the time, notwithstanding how devoted you are to sticking to a healthy diet. Allowing yourself to have something decadent every now and then is not only OK, it's encouraged. However, if you're the kind of person that can eat 10,000 calories in one day, it's not a good idea to do that.

4. Is it best to work out early in the morning?
This is one of the most- unrelenting myths about weight loss. Exercising earlier in the day doesn't burn more calories. But the number of calories you burn relies on your metabolism, food intake and body composition -- things that aren't dependent on when you choose to exercise. Get your activity whenever it matches into your schedule, even if it's just 10 minutes at a time.

5. Eating is better than Drinking
Eating the fruit would be better than fruit juice that might seem a healthy choice, since liquids leave you feeling less full than solid foods. Likewise, drinking pop on a regular basis can add unnecessary calories. Consider: A 12-ounce can of regular pop has 9 teaspoons of sugar and about 100 calories. "If you do that three times a day, that's almost a pound a week of calories," said Celia Pappas, a dietician at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Water and low-fat milk are brilliant options.

6. Drink water
When you're dieting, you should drink even more than usual. Even the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) recommends at least 8 full 8 ounce glasses of water a day to keep your body working right. It's not just that full feeling - water helps your body digest foods properly and cleans out your system.

7. Not to eat standing up.
One of the easiest ways to disrupt your diet is to 'eat without thinking'. Treat eating with the respect that it deserves. Fix yourself a plate. Sit down and eat appropriately. You will be less likely to just pop food into your mouth without paying attention.

8. Purchase a vegetable steamer.
Steaming is one of the healthiest ways to cook vegetables. The food keeps nearly all of its natural nutrients instead of discharging it out into the cooking water. Even better, it makes your veggies taste great - which means you'll be more likely to eat them instead of filling up on fatty foods that pack on weight.

Discover How Penis Enlargement Works...

Your penis is made up of 3 areas, 2 of which are known as the Corpora Cavernosa, and 1 smaller one found at the bottom of your penis is known as the Corpus Spongisum. Each of these chambers are lined with blood vessels that fill with blood when you gain an erection. The Corpus Spongisum chamber is mainly used to ejaculate, and the Corpora Cavernosa is what holds the majority of the blood when you gain an erection. To increase penis size, you must increase the size of these chambers. In the past, if you were unhappy with your size, there was not much you could do other then accept it. Due to modern technology, several products and programs are now offered for men who are not satisfied with their size.

There are several types of penis enlargement products:

1) Penis enlargement pills- Penis enlargement pills seem to be the most popular penis enlargement product. These pills are the easiest and most discreet product to take, and contain a natural active ingredient or herbal formula that increases the blood flow to the groin region. Penis enlargement pills do not significantly increase the size of the penis, but does increase the amount of blood flow, which makes the penis more firm and increases stamina. You may notice a slight change in size from the larger volume of blood flowing in your penis when taking these pills.

2) Penis enlargement patches- Enlargement patches are applied to the surface of your body. Patches are commonly used over pills because it allows your body to be exposed to the active ingredients 24 hours a day, and can be hidden underneath clothing. Over several weeks, you will begin to notice small increases in your penis size. The majority of men who use patches do now show an increase in size, but rather an increase in sexual desire, resulting in an increase in confidence.

3) Natural penis enlargement- Just like regular exercises, penis enlargement exercises work by forcing your muscles and vessels to stretch and expand. A dedicated exercise program will force blood to fill your Corpora Cavernosa, which in turn will increase as your exercise. The more amount of blood that can enter the penis, the firmer and largest the penis will be.

4) Penis enlargement devices- Penis enlargement devices work by placing pressure on your penis. When force and pressure is placed on your penis, you body naturally responds by stretching. When your penis stretches, the cell in the tissue area actually divide and multiply, which in turn produces larger skin mass. The larger mass allows more blood to enter the shaft, which in turn allows you to have a larger erection.

5) Penis enlargement surgery- There are several types of enlargement surgeries available. The majority of these surgeries work by placing a type of implant into your body, which can be activated and deactivated when needed. This type of method is relatively new, and is still somewhat expensive.

Be careful when you are deciding which enlargement method is right for you. Be aware of programs and products that offer dramatic increases in size, as large increases in a small amount of time is simply not possible.

Special care should also be taken, especially if you have a medical condition. Certain medical conditions and enlargement methods simply do not go together. If you are unsure if it is safe for you, consult your doctor.
