But the principle of getting a six pack abs is not to spot train your abs only. You should not be working more than 10 mins on your abs at any one time. Getting a ribbed abs require a total abs fitness workout plan. You should concentrate on the form and intensity of each rep in all your abs workouts.

What Causes Headaches?

Given the variety of headaches and headache sufferers it should not be surprising that the causes of headaches are just as diverse. There are literally hundreds of possible reasons for a headache including medical problems such as the fortunately rare instances of brain tumors or cerebral aneurysms. However the most commonly experienced headaches have generally common causes.

In all too many instances simple eyestrain such as that seen when staring for too long at a computer screen can produce a headache. In other cases, inflammation of the sinuses resulting from a head cold or allergy can be the cause. Taking certain medicines can also lead to a headache.

Though the exact cause is not always known, narrowing of the blood vessels is thought to be the cause in many cases. Nerve fibers in the head which are sensitive to pain line the walls of the blood vessels and when they contract the nerves send signals to the brain. Ironically, the brain cannot feel pain since it does not contain any pain sensitive nerve cells and cluster or tension-type headaches result.

However blood vessels can dilate as well as contract and when they do so migraines and cluster headaches can be the result. Contemporary research proposes that there are also several other much more important factors at work when it comes to migraine headaches.

Tension or more accurately tension-type headaches can arise from other causes such as tension in the muscles of the neck, shoulder and even the jaw. Those who have suffered from TMJ disorder which is a condition caused by tension of the temporomandibular joint causing the jaw to tighten against the skull will be all too familiar with this.

In more serious cases headaches are the result of an underlying disease and these are usually labeled as 'secondary headaches'. The catalogue of diseases this can cause headaches is lengthy and includes everything from irritable bowel syndrome to scarlet fever.

Frequently environmental factors also play an important role. Carbon monoxide poisoning such as that resulting from the gas produced by an automobile exhaust or many water heaters can result in severe headaches and indeed headaches are one of the prime symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning. Other causes include allergies, lead poisoning and food poisoning.

Even when food is not itself toxic as will be the case with food contaminated with a bacterial infection some individuals will be sensitive to compounds that will not affect people in general. Such common foods as chocolate and cheese can cause headaches in some individuals as will caffeine, some preservatives and red wine.

However position, posture and several other controllable factors can also be some of the most common causes. As an increasing number of people work with computers every day so we are seeing more neck tension, jaw stress and eyestrain.

About 85% to 90% of headaches are tension headaches which are generally the result of one or more of the factors detailed above. That means that in the vast majority of cases the cure is simple and within your control.

The Right Exercise to Lose Belly Fat

Personally, I believe any exercise is good exercise as long as you're not living a sedentary lifestyle. Something simple as a brisk walk for 30 minutes a day can improve your overall health. When you become serious about weight loss and how to lose belly fat, there are specific exercises that you can do to burn fat fast.

Become a Fat Burning Machine

One of the best ways to increase your metabolism, burn fat, and increase strength is by lifting weights on a regular basis. Muscle burns more calories than fat. The more muscles you have, the more calories you will burn throughout the day. You can build more muscle by performing strength training at least 3 days a week.

You don't need fancy gym equipment to begin a strength training program. You can start off with a pair of dumbbells, a barbell, and a bench. Be sure to let your muscles recover between workouts. Recovery time is when muscles actually repair themselves and grow larger.

Another effective way to burn fat is by using interval training. Interval training involves repetitions of short bursts (typically 30 to 60 seconds) of high-intensity exercise followed by a period of lower-intensity exercise. The reason intervals burn fat more effectively than typical cardio exercises is because it causes your heart rate to fluctuate (raise and lower) throughout the entire workout.

Interval training can go hand in hand with strength training as it doesn't have the damaging effects on muscle gains the way steady-state cardio routines do. Excessive amounts of steady-state cardio can cause the body to begin seeking energy from lean muscle. There are tons of body weight interval routines you can perform - no equipment needed!

Combining strength training along with interval training can turn you into a fat burning machine and help you lose belly fat in no time.

You can exercise to lose belly fat with little results if you don't have the right guidance. Learn exactly what to do to achieve your goals by visiting www.bellyfatcure.com.

Consumer Guide to Medical Tourism

When buying a new car or even a small inexpensive object, you probably refer to a buying guide or try to find out what others who have bought the product in the past are saying about it to make smart shopping decisions. But when it comes to buying healthcare, do you do the same? You must.

Healthcare has gone global today. The rising cost of healthcare in the US has led many Americans to seek health-related services in other countries. There are sellers all around the globe selling health care packaged in attractive and appealing packages on the Internet. And people are shopping for health on the Internet just like they shop for products. In such a market, it becomes all the more important that you go through the medical tourism consumer guide before setting out for your medical travel trip.

Here is a quick consumer guide for your reference when buying medical tourism services.

Can medical tourism solve your problem?
Firstly, find out the problems that you want medical tourism to solve. For most people it’s either the high price that their local hospital is asking for because of lack of insurance or the long wait for surgery. You might have another problem but will medical tourism help you solve that? Find out if medical tourism is right for you by reading facts and frequently asked questions about it.

What are your expectations with the medical procedure you are seeking?
Is the procedure that you are seeking elective or medically indicated? Find out all you can about the medical procedure in question. This will help you answer a few questions: is the treatment right for your condition; are you the right candidate for this treatment; should you obtain this treatment abroad; what physical therapy and follow-up care you will need; do you need the procedure urgently or can it wait, or in other words, when is the right time to obtain care; how much time will you need to take off from work (which will include not only the time that you are overseas for surgery but also recovery time upon your return); and so on.

What all countries are out there where you can obtain treatment?
Check out the various international destinations that offer the treatment that you require. Some countries are known for offering good orthopedic treatments, some for their cardiac surgery, some for cosmetic treatments and others for their dental works. Travel and lodging costs add to your final bill so consider those costs not only when calculating the expected savings but also when choosing the international destination for your treatment.

How do you sniff the good provider from the bad?
The Internet has given anybody and everybody the liberty to sell their service making it all too easy for the consumer to land into a wrong place. When studying about a particular hospital or clinic don’t fall for slick websites offering services on sale. That, of course, doesn’t mean that slick websites offering healthcare services on sale are not genuine. The point is that you should do your proper research about the hospital or the clinic you are considering. Ask people around who have used their services in the past. Read their customer testimonials. Inquire about their doctors’ certifications, qualifications, training and experience. Call them up and find out what equipment and technology they use. All these will give you a fair idea of the quality of the healthcare provider. Ask for quotes from different providers and compare them. As you will notice, costs vary from country to country and from provider to provider. You shouldn’t automatically select the one that offers the lowest price but should base your decision on the quality of care offered.

Are your medical records in place?
Get all your medical records in order. At the time of pre-consultation, your foreign doctor may ask for your digitized medical records so he may evaluate your condition and prescribe a treatment course.

Do you have your passport and visa yet?
Next, acquire your passport if you don’t have it yet. Any companions traveling with you will also need to acquire theirs. Depending upon the destination you are heading to, you may require entry visa and therefore need to apply for that as well for both you and any companions.

Booking your transportation and accommodation
Book your tickets and hotel rooms in advance. After your surgery you can choose to recuperate in a hotel or a resort setting or go traveling in the foreign country if allowed by your doctor. But travel or tourism should always take a back seat on your medical trip abroad.

Taking proper follow-up care
Finally, remember that your treatment doesn’t finish with your surgery. How you follow the aftercare rituals as important as your surgery. If needed, prepare your home for recovery prior to leaving for surgery, like rearranging furniture. Also, in case you have even limited insurance coverage, find out if your insurer will reimburse you and how much they will reimburse. Even a small amount may help.

The above medical tourism consumer guide will help you make good decisions when purchasing overseas medical care. To ease your job you may want to use a medical tourism service provider to help you research, plan, arrange, schedule and book your medical travel trip. Medical tourism providers like Healthbase connect you with the hospital of your choice and provide you with many other related services while saving you valuable time, resources and money.

Health in the workplace

The workplace has, in recent years for some become one of the unhealthiest environments in which to operate. Employees find themselves in pressure situations where they may be unclear of their job definition other than to appear busy and create a positive impression.

Motivation levels are very low and workers do what is necessary by agreeing, smiling and nodding heads in order to climb the corporate ladder. Employees in the United Kingdom work on average the longest hours per week in their main job (compared with the rest of the EU) and this holds for both men and women. Men's hours range from 39 per week in Belgium and the Netherlands to 42 in Greece and 45 in the United Kingdom. Women's hours all fall in the range 36 hours (Italy) to 41 hours (United Kingdom).

This issue needs to be addressed in order to improve the state of "corporate health". According to statistics, over 2 million people are suffering from an illness or injury which they believe is caused or made worse by their current or past work (Health and Occupation Reporting Network).

An overwhelming 97% of senior HR professionals believe that stress at work is the biggest threat to the future health of the UK workforce.

Stress and musculoskeletal injuries are the most common cause of absence in business, and according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, staff on average cost an employer £567 EACH per year in lost earnings through absence, although this figure could actually be tripled when the indirect costs of sickness in loss of sales, reduced customer service and lower productivity are taken into account.

Some 32.9 million working days are lost annually from people taking time off due to their illnesses.

The Cost of Back Pain: Over 1.1 million people in the UK experience musculoskeletal disorders caused by work, with an estimated 12.3 million days lost annually because of this.

The Cost of Work Related Stress: Stress is a natural reaction people have to excessive pressures placed upon them. While not an illness itself, if it is prolonged or intense it can lead to mental and physical ill health. This can include depression, back pain or heart disease.

In the United Kingdom as many as one in five people are suffering form high levels of work related stress (that's around 5 million workers). Around half a million individuals report experiencing stress at a level they believe made them ill. This results in approximately 13.4 million working days lost per year.

What Can Be Done? Studies have shown that not only does exercise keep you looking and feeling your best, it helps boost energy and concentration, therefore making you much more productive at work. According to an MSNBC report, 60% of workers that participated in a recent British study indicated that taking an "exercise break" during the day boosted their time management, mental performance, and ability to meet deadlines. Researchers found that exercise provided a performance boost of up to 15%. It also improved worker's overall mood at the end of the day. The type of exercise, the duration, and the intensity didn't seem to matter. The effect was observed over a wide range of activities including yoga, strength training, and aerobics. We recommend taking a couple of small 15-30 minute breaks during the day is a great way to renew your focus, concentration, and energy. This is especially true for creative knowledge workers who have to concentrate intensely for long periods of time over the course of a typical workday. Exercise is a great activity for break time because it not only gives you an immediate energy boost, but it also helps you release stress and deal with job pressures. Some activities to consider during your breaks include light stretching or talking a stroll outside. If you'd rather not sweat too much while at work, you can save more intense physical activity for lunchtime (when you can shower) or after work.

"Corporate wellness" programmes are a growing sector within many businesses to promote the physical health of employees for the purposes of increasing productivity and reducing absenteeism.

The format of most programmes usually involves health checks, seminars and cut priced gym memberships. This service is a huge step in the right direction and should be promoted to all businesses. Although this alone may make an employee feel upbeat about their job for a little longer it doesn't really address the real issues.

Research has suggested that nearly half of all Brits blame the demands of the workplace for preventing them from getting to the gym, so what use is a cut price membership if you can't find the time to exercise??

What Amino Acid Can Separate Metallic Cations From Cholesterol?

How could plaque be broken up in Coronary Heart Diseased arteries?

What Is (CHD)?

Atherosclerotic Heart Disease, Coronary Heart Disease and also Coronary Heart Disease is the end result of the accumulation of a atheromatous plaques within the walls of the arteries that supply the muscles of the heart with oxygen and nutrients. Did you know that the most common cause for death of men and woman over 20 years of age is (CHD)? The most common cause of sudden death is coronary heart disease and it may not show ay definite signs or symptoms. Artherosclerotic heart disease consists of streaks that do not block the flow of blood. An indivdual can have (CHD), but doesn't show any sign evidence of the blood vessels changing in shape.

Over time the thickness of the plaque streaks may increase. In addition, these streaks can grow larger inside the walls of th arteries and through time will grow in the lumen of the vessel. plaque burden can be caused by a rupturing of the plaque causing an abundance of thrombus material. Did you know that an individual could develop symptoms of obstructive coronary heart disease after the plaque blocks more than 70% of the diameter of the vessel? In comparison, symptoms of (CHD) rarely show up in arterial blockages of less than 70%.

What Are The Risk Factors?

Hypertension

Smoking

Hyperglycemia (due to diabetes mellitus or otherwise)

Type A behavioral patterns

Hypercholesterolemia (LDL concentrations)

Hereditary differences in such diverse aspects as lipoprotein structure and that of their associated receptors, homocysteine processing/metabolism.

What Are The Indirect Risk Factors?

Diet low in antioxidants

Stress

Lack of exercise

Diet rich in saturated fats

What Is Oral Chelation?

Chelation is based on the observation that when a certain amino acid complex called EDTA comes into contact with certain positively charged metals and other substances such as lead, calcium, zinc, copper, magnesium, plutonium, iron, and manganese it grabs them. The EDTA actually grabs metallic cations such as calcium or lead (calcium and cholesterol form plaque within the blood vessels) and forms a compound that is then excreted from our system. As a result, oral chelation can break up plaque, which in turn can help to lower triglyceride levels and probably reduce (CHD) related problems.

As more information on coronary heart disease is discovered, I will update this article accordingly.

Can "Combat Conditioning" Improve Your Appearance?

Occasionally in life, someone will blurt out something that verbalizes your exact thoughts at nearly the precise time you're thinking them. I experienced this one afternoon when I was twenty years old and undergoing the most physically demanding military training ever devised (at least it was then; I can't speak for it now). It was spring of 1984. I was in U.S. Navy, Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL Training as I stood shirtless in front of the bathroom mirror on the first floor of the beach-front barracks in Coronado, California. I felt slightly disappointed from a standpoint of pure vanity when a fellow trainee blurted out to his buddy:

"Damn... my body has hardly changed a bit since I've been in this training."

Oh, wow; my sentiments about myself exactly. I looked around to see that a group of them had stormed into the other end of the room and this guy had pulled off his shirt to see whether the inhumanly arduous training had sculpted something better out of his physique. It hadn't. He was visibly bummed.

Did we have a lot of "functional strength"? Oh... you bet. I was able to run up a steep hill of jagged terrain on San Clemente Island while holding a heavy pallet on my shoulders. A lot of what we did was impressive feats of endurance and strength.

Yet I'm actually stronger now, sans some of the endurance. And believe me; my current gym-built strength is fully functional. The term "functional strength" is oftentimes meaningless, esoteric jargon. You're either fully functional or something's amiss. You're either relatively strong or you're not. There's not a special kind of muscle strength that's "functional".

Can you "master your own bodyweight" from this type of training? Uh... well, this might be more jargon. When I started the training, I was probably capable of six pull-ups. When I was well into the training, I could do thirty. I'm not sure at what number I would have been considered a master of my own bodyweight. But if you'd compared me to the guy who could only do two, I guess I was a master of it all along. HOOYAH! (That's a BUD/S saying)

Yet... how come my physique didn't appear much better? There are really three simple reasons:

1) Very high-rep exercise (bodyweight stuff) most effectively burns body fat with eating habit improvements.

2) Very high-rep exercise ("mastering" bodyweight) hardly adds any muscle size.

3) We're obviously limited in scope of exercises we can perform with the bodyweight, combat conditioning stuff (unless we start military pressing our buddies, like the U.S. Marines do). This can cause whatever miniscule muscle gains we can acquire from it to be aesthetically unbalanced.

Let's face the facts: It's really only some visually noticeable muscle added to the body along with major drops in body fat that significantly augments one's appearance. You can make an improvement with just one or the other (some additional muscle or some reduction of fat), but it's both together that creates exciting, head-turning physique results.

'Combat conditioning' (i.e. training the body purely for a combat situation), using only one's body weight for resistance, will build the mitochondria fibers of the muscles. These are the slow-twitch fibers that possess the least potential for growth. With only negligible increases in muscle size, it's pretty difficult to improve the shape of one's body very much.

Yet this type of training will also cause the body to deplete the energy stores of the muscles. This effectively creates a repletion process that includes the breaking down of triglycerides that can be drawn from fat stores within the body. What you're doing, in effect, is taking energy from stored body fat and converting it to stored muscle fuel. That's a good thing.

But this positive effect can easily be negated if one's eating habits aren't controlled. What happened to us within the combat conditioning context of BUD/S Training is that we became hungrier and simply ate more carbohydrates and dietary fat to compensate for the intense training. So, although we were capable of incredible endurance feats (the utility of which off the combat field can be debated), we didn't possess the "hard body" appearance some of us were expecting from such rigors.

Would I ever go back to using 'body weight exercises' as my fitness regimen? Let's face it; they're convenient ' right? A travelling person can do them right there in the hotel room after rolling their groggy butt out of bed.

Yeah, I'll go back to them when some wacko blows up every gym in the world. You see, most people engage in natural bodybuilding in a time-wasting and ineffective manner. I've discovered a way to do it that keeps me getting exciting (and thus motivating) results while not having to live in the gym.

What's more, regardless of the controversy surrounding "how many BMR calories are burned by a pound of muscle", I've noticed my body fat is much easier to keep down since putting on appreciable amounts of natural muscle. A picture speaks a thousand words ' and anyone can see the contrast at the very top of my web site.

Influenza Treatment – Causes, symptoms and potential treatment

Influenza is caused by airborne viruses via the respiratory system. Influenza or flu can be transmitted from one person to another by coughing and sneezing through his mucus, saliva and other secretions. Influenza viruses cannot enter the body through the skin.

There are many influenza treatments; influenza vaccines or flu shots, Tamiflu and home remedies. Flu shots contain thimerosal which is a mercury based preservative and over the last twenty years or so, it has been removed from many health care products in order to protect public health. Home remedies are far or less ineffective and hence the only effectual influenza treatment we have is Tamiflu.

The active ingredient in Tamiflu is oseltamivir and it reduces the intensity of all the flu symptoms including fever, chills, body aches, muscle pain, headache and fatigue. Other influenza symptoms that may not be noticed initially are dry cough, runny nose and sore throat.

You can also buy Tamiflu online , Tamiflu also blocks the action of neuraminidase enzyme in the body. This enzyme supports reproduction and spreading of influenza virus in the body. When you buy Tamiflu online, it inhibits the spread of virus infection and reduces the span of disease.

Tamiflu works against both the type A and type B influenza viruses and provides effective protection against the attack of the flu. If you are diagnosed with flu, your best bet is to buy Tamiflu online. When you buy Tamiflu online, you won’t have to step out in the cold to the doctor and local pharmacy but sit in the warm interiors of your home and get influenza treatment.

If you want to buy Tamiflu online, make sure you buy genuine Tamiflu marketed by
Hoffmann-La Roche.

Influenza Treatment – Tamiflu in Brief

1. Tamiflu is used both in the prevention and cure of influenza from virus A and virus B
2. It acts as a transition-state analogue inhibitor of influenza neuraminidase, preventing new viruses from budding from contaminated cells
3. Tamiflu ‘oseltamivir’ is the first oral neuraminidase inhibitor commercially developed for influenza treatment
4. Tamiflu is an effective influenza treatment but has certain side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and head ache

Tamiflu is successful at treating adults and adolescents suffering from flu. When you buy Tamiflu online it protects you from getting flu even if you are exposed to someone who has it and also reduces the chances of getting the disease if there is an outbreak of flu.

Healthy Breakfast: The Most Vital Meal of the Day

Almost everyone wishes to stay healthy and live healthy. However living a healthy life requires major effort on your part. You will need to diet, you will need to exercise, and you will need to look out for yourself in order to be healthy. However, there is one thing that you can do that will contribute greatly to your health. That one thing is eating a healthy breakfast every day of your life, to start the day. It is essential for weight loss as well as for staying fit.

Most people unfortunately skip breakfast for sake of weight loss and sometimes to save time on their way to work. Actually, this is one of the worst things that you can do to your body. A research done by scientists indicated that when the body doesn’t start with a healthy breakfast, the metabolic rate will drop down considerably and thus this will also cause a spike in your blood sugar levels. This will also cause you to eat bigger meals and unhealthy snacks during the day and because your metabolism has reduced itself in the morning, you will be able to burn less calories. Thus, you will not only gain weight, but your body will also be thrown in an imbalance when you don’t eat breakfast.

However, eating breakfast will solve your problems greatly as your body will feel full and satisfied. Your metabolic rate will increase along with thermo genesis (the rate of energy burning by your body). Your blood sugar levels will balance out and you will not feel the craving for extra snacks and foods for 4-5 hours.

In any case, you should take care to eat a healthy breakfast. However, it will need to be balanced in order to be healthy. This means that a huge plate of scrambled eggs and lots of bacon is out of the picture. You should take care to eat things like fibers, proteins, and in general nutritious food. Here is a list of things that you can eat in order to make a health breakfast. In total, what you eat for breakfast should not be more than 2 or 3 servings

1. A bowl of cereal (whole grain).
2. A bowl of oatmeal.
3. An apple or an orange (or apple juice or orange juice).
4. Hardboiled egg (don’t fry them for health and weight loss purposes).
5. Skimmed Milk.
6. Low fat cheese.
7. Brown bread - toasted (never eat white bread).
8. Walnuts, pecans and any nuts in general.
9. Any raw vegetables like carrots, tomatoes, peppers etc.
10. A low fat protein shake or a nutrition shake.
11. A cup of tea with no sugar.

As you can see, a healthy breakfast is comprised of healthy food. Eating a balanced breakfast will also help you in your quest for losing weight. It will restore the balance of your body, so that you will not feel the need to eat snacks or huge meals during the day. Moreover, you will also feel better during the day, compared to people who skip breakfast.

Information, advice and tips on overall health of male prostate gland

Webmaster, who is associated with MaleProstate.co.uk would present the information, advices and tips on overall health of male prostate, enlarged prostate, disease, prostate milking, problems related to male prostate and prostate cancer through the online male prostate informative website.

The prostate is a compound tubuloalveolar exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system. In simple words, Male Prostate is an erogenous zone in the body of a man.

The prostate gland is located at the base of the urinary bladder. It surrounds the first part of the urethra, which is a tube and gives a safe passage to the flow of urine from the bladder up to the penis. The main function of the prostate gland is to secrete a fluid, which makes up the liquid part of the semen.

Prostate Health

The prostate gland of a sexually mature man is about the size of a walnut. It is located close to the base of the bladder, in front of the rectum. It produces fluid, which nourishes and protects semen, when it is transported into the vagina of a woman through sexual intercourse. This fluid also increases the volume of the semen.

Prostate gland in men starts enlarging as they get older. Your prostate will probably start to enlarge when you are in your 40s and enlargement may continue for the rest of your life. This condition is commonly known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

There are three main conditions affecting the prostate health. These include Prostatitis, Prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia or enlarged prostate gland.

Prostate Milking

Many people recommend regular prostate milking as a preventative treatment against prostate cancer and prostatitis. Prostate milking is also known as prostate massage. Below are given steps, which guide you through the process of prostate milking when you do it on your own.

- First make sure that your fingernails are trimmed and have no jagged edges jutting out.

- Clean your body and your hands thoroughly. Then put on a sterile latex glove on your hand and dab a little water-based lubricant on your fingers to perform urination or a bowel movement, which helps to relax the area.

- Carefully insert your finger or fingers into your anus. Move them gradually upwards and to the back, along the area of the rectum towards the front of your body.

- Your fingers should move roughly in the direction of your navel.

- You will feel the prostate gland, which is like a small, round bulb about the size of a large walnut. Gently massage it with a light waving motion along its sides.

- You should not press hard on the central area, where the sensitive nerves are located.

- You may experience a disconcerting sensation, which makes you feel an urge to urinate. However, you should continue with the procedure.

- After a few minutes, the prostate gland may be stimulated enough to have ejaculation.

- You may also experience sexual pleasure or orgasm. However, sometimes, ejaculation will not take place but you may feel sexual pleasure.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a disease, which develops when cells of the prostate mutate and begin to multiply in an uncontrolled manner. In most of the cases, prostate cancer develops slowly and may remain undiagnosed, as it never causes any symptoms or problems.

Prostate Problems

The most common symptom of a prostate problem is difficulty in urination. The changes in the prostate narrow the urethra, which helps in smooth exit of urine from the bladder. Prostate problems are generally found in men after the age of 50 years when they experience urination problems. These prostate problems occur due to its enlargement, which result in squeezing the urethra.

Enlarged Prostate

Enlarged prostate is also known as benign prostatic obstruction (BPO) or sometimes as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Enlarged prostate is an overgrowth of prostate cells, which obstruct the flow of urine and men suffer urination problems.

Being overweight is bad for your health; there is no question about it. But research shows that where you store fat is more important than how much extra weight you are carrying. When it comes to your health, there is one place where fat is much more dangerous.

The most recent research on belly fat is that people who store it in their middle are nearly three times more likely to suffer from dementia in their 70s and 80s. Adding to that, belly fat also increases your risk for developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and some cancers.

Researchers are still trying to figure out why belly fat is so dangerous to your health. Some doctors think it releases toxins associated with plaque buildup, and even thin people who have extra weight in the middle are at an increased risk for disease.

Genetics and lifestyle are to blame when it comes to your fat storage. Some people are more bottom-heavy (pear shape) and others carry weight around the middle (apple shape). You can easily find out if you are at risk just by measuring yourself. Simply get out a tape measure, exhale, relax and measure around your stomach. The bottom of the tape measure should be even with your hip bone. If you are a male, you should aim for less than 39 inches. Females should be less than 34.5 inches. The higher you are from these numbers, the more at risk you are.

If you realize that your waist is larger than it should be, losing weight around your middle will go a long way toward preventing disease. By losing just 5 to 10 percent of your body weight you can reduce the layer of belly fat by as much as 30 percent. The most successful approaches to weight loss include a reduced-calorie diet that is low in saturated fat and sugar and incorporates exercise.

Beta Carotene Is The Safe Form Of Vitamin A

The fact that beta carotene is stated to be a safe form of vitamin A suggests that vitamin A is in some way unsafe. In fact an overdose of vitamin A can lead to any one of a number of conditions, including nausea, jaundice, vomiting, abdominal pain and headaches. This vitamin is fat soluble, and so any excess is not easily washed out of the body but can build up in the tissues.

Toxicity in the liver can occur at fairly low concentrations, and the toxicity of the vitamin is increased by excessive alcohol intake. However, toxicity only occurs with vitamin A already formed such as that obtained from liver.

There are several forms of vitamin A, including the retinoid form originating from animal sources and the carotenoid forms that have a vegetable origin. Carotenoids are converted to vitamin A in the liver, but the higher the concentration of beta carotene in the body, the smaller the percentage that is converted to vitamin A, so beta carotene is a safer source of vitamin A than retinoids. It is only the finished form of vitamin A that is toxic, and beta carotene is therefore self-regulating in its production.

This vitamin is stored in the body in the form of the alcohol (retinol) and of retinyl esters. Studies have indicated that as much as 95% if the stored vitamin is in the form of the ester. The liver is responsible for releasing vitamin A to the body as it is required. One of its better known effects is on vision, and the old wives tale that carrots help you to see in the dark has an element of truth in it.

In order for it to aid vision, retinol is oxidized to the aldehyde, retinal, that forms a complex with a molecule of opsin, a light sensitive protein found in the retina. Rhodopsin, as the complex is called, is an essential component of the biochemical chain of events that lead to the perception of light. It is extremely sensitive, and enables you see in very low levels of light. In other words it is essential for good night vision, so carrots do help you to see in the dark! When a photon of light hits a molecule of rhodopsin, it leads eventually to an impulse being sent up the optic nerve to the brain.

One of its properties is its reaction to white light. When rhodopsin is exposed to white light it loses its pigmentation, and hence its photoreceptor properties and can take 30 minutes to regenerate. That is why you lose your night sight if your retina is exposed to bright light. The more rhodopsin you can generate the quicker you develop night sight.

The other biochemical processes of the vitamin include the synthesis of some glycoproteins and maintenance of normal bone density. Without vitamin A, calcium is not properly absorbed by the body and glycoproteins are involved in this process. A deficiency of vitamin A can lead to the abnormal development of bone and other health problems, so there are limits between the levels of vitamin A in the body that must be maintained: above or below these limits will lead to health problems, some of which can be extremely serious.

Most of the biochemistry of vitamin A in the liver is initiated by the presence of alcohol, and otherwise it is though to passively store the vitamin until needed when it is released into the blood. There are several ways in which the presence of alcohol allows the liver to deplete its store of retinol, but generally there are a number of enzymes that, in the presence of ethanol, can render vitamin A into a water soluble form that is excreted by the urine.

The benefits of vitamin A other than its effect on night sight and the healthy development of bone tissue, includes a powerful antioxidant effect that neutralizes free radicals that can destroy body cells. These free radicals are generated by the bodys metabolism in generating energy from blood glucose, and are also created through exposure to pollutants such as cigarette smoke and traffic fumes. They are electron deficient, so when they are generated they grab an electron from tissue close by which destroys the cells involved. This can lead not only to the appearance of premature aging as the skin cells are damaged but also to serious health problems such as atherosclerosis and some forms of cancer. Vitamin A helps to protect against these by destroying the free radicals before they can do damage. It also helps build up resistance against infections by supporting the immune system.

Beta carotene is converted to vitamin A either by cleaving at the center of the molecule, or by breaking it down from one of the ends. This latter process is carried out in the small intestine, and the resultant vitamin stored in the liver in the ester form. Only a proportion of what you eat is converted to retinol ester in this way, and the more beta carotene you consume, the less is converted, so you can never suffer from an overdose of beta carotene-derived vitamin A. It might turn you yellow, but you wont suffer from excess vitamin A since the excess beta carotene is stored in your body fat, including the subcutaneous fat reserves.

Alpha carotene can also be used in the synthesis of vitamin A, but not as actively as beta carotene. The best natural sources are fruits and vegetables, especially the red, yellow and orange varieties such as carrots and apricots, and also the leafy green vegetables, although supplements are also a convenient way of maintaining your beta carotene uptake. It is a much safer supplement than straight vitamin A for the reasons explained earlier. The supplement is not useful just for its antioxidant effect, but also for its ability to protect you from excessive exposure to the sun. While not as effective as a good sun blocker, beta carotene does provide some protection.

There is no doubt that beta carotene is a safer way to maintain an adequate vitamin A uptake due to the fact that you cannot take an overdose, since an overdose of beta carotene does not translate into the same dose of vitamin A, and the change is self-regulating. It is therefore safer to obtain your vitamin A needs from colored fruits and vegetables or beta carotene supplements than from eating liver, from which the retinol is in a form that can cause damage in the event of consuming an excess.

The old adage that you should never eat polar bear livers is a true one, and certainly has a provable scientific basis, so use beta carotene as your main vitamin A source for maximum health benefits in the safest possible way.

Finding The Effective Treatment For Your Anxiety Disorder

Although anxiety is accepted as being a normal and healthy emotion, some people suffer from intense anxiety, which ends up affecting their lives and causing them to keep away from certain situations that they used to be able to deal without difficulty. If you are suffering from anxiety then you should begin on finding an appropriate and effective method of treatment.

The first thing you need to do is determining the type of anxiety disorder you suffer from. There are five main types of anxiety disorders: generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and social anxiety disorder. Effective treatments for each anxiety disorder are accessible, and new and enhanced treatments are always becoming available.

Non-medication treatments

Once you have found out the type of anxiety that you are suffering from you will be able to find the suitable anxiety disorder treatment. Mild anxiety disorders can often be treated relatively simple with relaxation and breathing techniques. Yoga, for instance, is a great type of exercise that can really help with anxiety and related health conditions. This is definitely something that should be tried prior to more serious forms of anxiety disorder treatment.

If your anxiety is more severe or constant, then therapy or counseling may become the best option. Cognitive behavioral therapy for one has been confirmed to be very effective in the treatment of all types of anxiety disorder. In this therapy you work one on one with an experienced and qualified mental health professional, who will assist you to deal with your fears in a safe and controlled environment. Over time you will be able to find out the root of your anxiety and from there work towards developing a treatment plan that will lead you to your normal life.

You can also select an anxiety disorder treatment plan that involves natural and herbal treatments. Herbal remedies such as valerian root and kava kava have over and over again proven to be effective at treating anxiety disorders and depression. You do need to keep in mind that just because these herbal remedies are natural it does not indicate that you do not still have to be careful. If taken inappropriately, these remedies can actually worsen your anxiety.

Hypnotherapy, biofeedback, and acupuncture are other options for anxiety disorder treatment. In order to determine which one is going to work best for you, you need to talk to your doctor. You may need to try a few different methods before you find the one that works best for you and your particular anxiety condition.

Medications for anxiety disorder

Generally, most treatments for anxiety disorders include at least one prescription medication. If you start taking medication as a treatment for anxiety disorder, it is important to understand that this should not be a long-term solution and you should keep working with a certified mental health professional in order to determine the root cause of your anxiety.

There are several common medications for anxiety disorder and one of them is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Serotonin is known as the brain's all-natural happy drug. Scientists believe that a lack of serotonin is the source of depression, anxiety, and panic attacks and therefore the purpose of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors is to increase the levels of serotonin in the brain. Some familiar brands that use selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors are Prozac and Zoloft.

Benzodiazepines are another choice of medication, which act like minor tranquilizers. They decelerate the body's nervous system, giving it an all-over calm. These types of medications can be addictive, so they should only be taken as prescribed. Some well-known brand names are Xanax and Valium.

Another medication that is used to treat anxiety disorder is antidepressants, which affect the neurotransmitters in the brain. Effexor is a good example of this type of anxiety disorder medication. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are very strong antidepressant drugs that should only be taken as a last resort after all other treatments have been tried. These drugs can be lethal when combined with certain other drugs and foods. One thing that need to be noted, anyone who takes antidepressants may become more susceptible to suicide, especially when they first begin to take them or when the dosage is changed.

Last important remark

Taking time to find the right treatment for your anxiety disorder is going to be vital to your success and you are going to want to work with a professional, especially if you have little knowledge on anxiety disorders in general. Remember that treatment for anxiety disorder is as different as the individuals who use them, and what works well for one person may not be effective for you. You may find relief from various sources of treatment including medication, therapy, self-help, alternative medicine or another form of treatment, and it may take some time and some trial and error in order to discover what works best for you.

One thing to remember is that support from family and friends are also very important. Many communities have organized support groups for people with different difficulties and you should be able to find a support group dedicated to anxiety disorder. These groups are typically made up of people with similar problems. Most patients find it reassuring to realize that they are not alone. Others in the group will be able to share advices, failures, and successes.

How Do I Know If I Have Allergies?

Most everyone has an idea of what an allergy is. Allergies are so common, in fact, that it seems acceptable to discuss allergy symptoms at a cocktail party with perfect strangers.

An allergy is an abnormal reaction by a person's immune system to a normally harmless substance. A person without allergies would have no reaction to this substance, but when a person who is allergic encounters the trigger, the body reacts by releasing chemicals which cause allergy symptoms.

In children, allergic disease first occurs as atopic dermatitis (eczema) or food allergies. Children with atopic dermatitis are then at an increased risk of developing allergic rhinitis and asthma; both are more likely to occur in school-age children.

Typically, atopic dermatitis goes away by adulthood, as do many types of food allergies.

Allergic rhinitis and asthma, however, most often start during the adolescent, teenage and young adult years, and are likely to persist throughout a person's life. The severity of allergic symptoms, however, may wax and wane, and even temporarily disappear during a person's life.

Atopic Dermatitis

This is typically the first sign of allergies and is seen in 10 to 20% of all children, frequently during infancy. Atopic dermatitis, or eczema, is characterized by itching, with rash formation at the sites of scratching. The rash is typically red and dry, may have small blisters, and can flake and ooze over time.

In infants and very young children, this rash involves the face (especially the cheeks), chest and trunk, back of the scalp and may involve the arms and legs. This distribution reflects where the child is able to scratch, and therefore usually spares the diaper area. The location of the rash changes in older children and adults to classically involve the skin in front of the elbows and behind the knees. Food and environmental allergies have been shown to worsen atopic dermatitis.

Food Allergies

Food allergies can occur at any age. Almost all people with food allergies will have a skin symptom, such as hives, swelling, itching or redness of the skin, as a result of eating the culprit food. These symptoms typically occur within a few minutes of eating the food in question, although they can be delayed up to a couple of hours.

Other symptoms of food allergies can include nausea, vomiting, stomach aches, diarrhea, breathing difficulties (asthma symptoms), runny nose, sneezing, and lightheadedness. In some cases, children can experience a severe allergic reaction, called anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening.

Nasal Allergies

Allergic rhinitis occurs in up to 30% of adults and up to 40% of children. Symptoms of allergic rhinitis include sneezing, runny nose, itchy nose and eyes and nasal congestion. Some people may also experience post-nasal drip, allergic shiners (dark circles under the eyes), and a line across the nasal bridge from an upward rubbing of the palm of the hand on the nose, a sign called the "allergic salute."

Asthma

Allergies are a major cause of asthma, a condition that occurs in about 8% of all people. Though it can occur at any age, it is most often seen in males in the pre-teen years and in females in the teenage years; asthma is the most common chronic disease in children and young adults. Sometimes asthma is difficult to diagnose in very young children, and may require a physician who is an asthma specialist.

Symptoms of asthma may include:

- Coughing -- This can be the only symptom in some people who have "cough-variant asthma." The cough is often dry, hacking, and may be worse with allergic triggers and after exercise. The cough may only be present at night. Cold air may also trigger this symptom.

- Wheezing -- This is a high-pitched, musical-like sound that can occur with breathing in and out in people with asthma. Wheezing usually occurs along with other asthma symptoms, may get worse with exercise and with allergic triggers.

- Shortness of breath -- Most people with asthma feel as if they're not getting enough air at times, particularly when they are physically exerting themselves or when an allergic trigger is present. People with more severe asthma have shortness of breath at rest or wake-up with this symptom during the night.

- Chest tightness -- Some people describe this as a sensation that someone is squeezing or hugging them. Children may say that their chest hurts or feels "funny."

Many asthmatics have symptoms with exercise; this does not necessarily mean that their asthma is severe or uncontrolled.

How to Get Maximum Benefit from Acne Treatment Procedures

Acne is a skin disorder that normally affects teenagers or adolescents. Many attribute this condition to the raging hormones in a teen's body. This inflammatory skin disorder is primarily caused by the hair follicle and the oil gland that comes with it. Lesions and inflammation occur in areas where the sebaceous glands produced too much oil in addition to an accumulation of other impurities. Excessive shedding of skin which sometimes happens during puberty may also contribute to the creation of acne.

The basic of treatment for acne

The treatments of acne aim to control and manage the production of excessive oil, the hormone imbalance, and the symptoms of acne. If you address the causes of acne directly, then you do not have to experience the scars and other skin disfigurements that may come with severe acne. You need to remember that not all treatments of acne work for everybody.

Your skin is unique and as a result the products that you use on your skin should be unique to you as well. Your sister may have oily skin, but yours may be dry, while your mother has combination skin. If all three of you used the same acne treatment to heal your blemished skin, you would find that you all had different results. Therefore, the best thing you can do when shopping for acne treatments, is to know your skin type. Purchase a product that is made especially for the type of skin you have and you will definitely see much better results.

Choices of top acne treatment

Mild acne can be resolved just by changing your lifestyle and diet. Treatment of acne is as simple as only getting better sleep and eating the right foods. However, more severe cases of acne will need a stronger type of treatment as well.

The first treatment that you should use is an exfoliating treatment. Your skin is made up of several layers and those layers should be shed regularly. Skin is amazing in its capacity to regenerate, so when you exfoliate, you are removing dead skin cells from the surface of your skin to expose the new skin underneath. If you suffer from acne, using treatments that include exfoliation is an excellent idea. When you gently remove these dead cells on the surface of your skin, you also lose the barriers that keep your cleansing soaps and conditioners from providing you a deep clean. Once those dead cells are gone, your cleanser can really penetrate to the skin layers where acne begins.

The second treatment is use a gentle cleanser when you want to cleanse your skin because acne prone skin usually is more sensitive than normal skin type. Harsh products or a chemical filled soap can make your acne even worse. In addition, a strong cleansing treatment for acne can cause irritation that is far worse than the pimples you are trying to treat.

Another excellent treatment is a moisturizer product. Most people think that the good way to treat acne is to dry up your skin. While oily skin and acne often go hand in hand, treating your oily skin with super drying treatments can in fact increase your problems. When you use a product to dry out your skin pores, your oil glands react by producing more oil. This situation in turn leads to more clogged pores and even more breakouts.

Depending on the source of acne problem, dermatologists may also prescribe anti-pregnancy pills as a treatment for acne. The hormones that the pills release into the body can effectively balance the hormones that an adolescent experiences during puberty. This treatment for acne can effectively address the real source of problem instead of just the symptom or manifestation of skin disorder.

Additional tips for treating acne

When it comes to find the most effective acne treatment, people often overlook the importance of consistency. That is, if you want to rid yourself of acne and you have a prescription for an oral medication or a topical one and the instructions say to take the medication at certain intervals and for a specified period of time, then it is important that these instructions are followed. That would sound like common sense, but unfortunately many people are not consistent with their treatment process and therefore the ability of the treatment to be effective is diminished. Worse yet, if you are not consistent with oral dosages, other major problems may result. For example, instead of taking the prescribed medications three times a day, a person takes one here, two there, skips a day, takes four, skips three days, and other variations. In this situation, the body will develop a tolerance to the medication and, thus, it becomes ineffective. Obviously, this will seriously hamper a person's ability to arrive at effective acne treatment.

For my last remark, the final treatment that helps to prevent acne cannot even be found in the skin care section. Water flushes out the impurities from your body, including those found in your skin. Therefore, when you drink at least eight glasses of water a day, you will see an improvement in your complexion.

Buddhist Meditation Provides the Ultimate in Tranquility And Harmony

Meditation is very common within many religions around the world and has been practised for hundreds of years. Buddhism is probably the most well known religion that practises meditation and Nibbbana is the ultimate goal for a Buddhist. This is obtained by years of practising Buddhist mediatation. Nibbana is a state of mind and not a physical thing that can be seen, bought or held. Nibbana is obtained by reaching the end of craving and suffering and this is the ultimate goal for someone who practises Buddhist meditation.

Although being a kind person, being good to others and doing good deeds is important to make you a nice person it will not help you to obtain Nibbana. Nibbana is only obtained through Buddhist meditation and following the Buddhist scripturesand writings. To reach total enlightenment you not only need to read the scriptures but more importantly, you need to implement and understand the actual practice. There are two different types of Buddhist meditation that are used in the Buddhist religion. These are Vipassana and Samatha .

Samatha translates to mean calmness or tranquillity. This is a state that the pupil is trying to reach whilst meditating. This is done by calming the mind and concentrating on one specific thing. There are many things that can help with Samatha meditation like water or a flickering candle. The person meditating can focus on the candle flame or water and block out all other outside interferences. Whilst concentrating your mind you should also use anapanasati. This is the method of focusing on your breathing. If you do not have any candles or water then you can just use your breathing to help focus your mind. Samatha is more than just focusing; however, the pupil needs to get rid of the five vices of sloth, anxiety, sensual desire, ill will and doubt. When this has been attained through this form of Buddhist meditation, great happiness is gained but, Nibbana still hasn’t been achieved. This is where vipassana is necessary.

Vipassana is very different from Samatha but is still an important part of Buddhist meditation and reaching the goal of enlightenment. This technique is all about looking at life with a very basic outlook. You need to see things as they are and you need to acknowledge everything that you do. If you are sweeping the drive, you need to acknowledge to yourself that you are sweeping the drive. This is the first stage of vipassana which is bare awareness. By becoming completely aware of everything you do at all times and by concentrating your mind by using Samatha you can obtain total enlightenment which is the final goal of anyone who is interested in Buddhist meditation.

Most practioners of Buddhist meditation spend their entire lives trying to attain enlightenment, so if you have just started, do not be disheartened if you do not attain the end goal within a short period of time. Buddhist meditation needs to become part of your life and how you live your life. Although it is a long road to reach the end, enlightenment can be the ultimate spiritual fulfilment.

IS EATING WHILE DRINKING GOOD FOR YOU?

IS EATING WHILE DRINKING GOOD FOR YOU?
A group of researchers in New York proved that those who drink without eating are in greater danger of suffering from an oral cavity or gullet cancer than those who eat when they drink. In particular, the risk of contracting cancer of the oral cavity, the gullet or esophagus grew 60-85% and larynx cancer by about 25%. In addition to this, consumption of large quantities of alcohol raises the risk of diseases mentioned above even when drinking and eating at the same time.

The thing is that alcohol causes inflammatory changes in tissues of the digestive system, which in the long run could lead to dangerous tumors and other incurable maladies. The peculiarity is that foods can create a protective layer on the surface of the digestive system, protecting it from the influence of alcohol and removing alcohol from its surface.

The summarization would be the following advice that came down from practical recommendations of scientists: “for favourable outcome drink alcohol in small quantities and while you are eating your meal.”

No Time to Exercise?

Many people claim they don't have time to exercise, they don't have time to cook, basically they don't have time for anything.

The fact is we all have the time. Students, labourers, bankers, CEO's of powerful companies all have the same thing in common; 24 hours in a day! The difference is how they choose to organise their day.

So many people complain about how stressful work is and how they've had to skip lunch because they didn't have time to eat. The truth is it's all about prioritising. Somewhere along the line we have come to place our health extremely low on our list of priorities and values. In fact for a lot of people health only becomes a priority when we lose it. I guarantee that when you become ill you will find the time to be ill, you won't have a choice.

What to do? WAKE UP!

The deadlines will NEVER go away, there's always another around the corner. There are always things to do and appointments to make.

DECIDE

Take the time right now to put your health at the very TOP of your list of priorities. Don't put anything else first! If you become seriously unwell you won't be able to work, you won't be able to do the things you love and those you love won't be able to depend on you.

HOW TO DO IT

Timetable yourself in every day and stick to it! Decide at the end of each week when you will fit in your exercise for the following week and when you will take the time to cook yourself healthy meals.

BE AWARE

Don't let anyone steal your time. Sometimes the people we care about are the first one's to jeopardise our time. Perhaps a friend will ring wanting to go for coffee or a family member wanting to chat, you quickly become distracted and put your exercise off for the next day. There are circumstances when you need to stray; however unless it's an emergency or you've been offered the chance of a life time, then you should stay on track.

The fact is if you want to be healthy, look great and feel great, you first have to START doing the things that will get you there in order to HAVE the results you want.

GO FOR IT! Create your time table, stick to it, and don't let anyone steal your time. Do this and you will see results!
